(A) Study on the Variation of Spatial Structure and plan surface form of Urban Housing원문보기

Korea began to see a full-fledged modernization after the 1960s. Rising from the ashes of the Japanese occupation (1910-45) and the Korean War (1950-53), Korea transformed itself from an agriculture-oriented society into an emerging economy with mass production and consumption, accelerating its modernization and urbanization. As a result, Korea's housing also went through a dramatic change. Ranging from traditional folk houses to today's apartment houses, the urban housing in Korea has reached what it is today through a variety of phases and factors. A number of studies have been made of the changes in Korean housing in various perspectives. So far, however, these studies have been focused largely on: (1) explaining housing patterns and formative characteristics in various analytic frames; (2) classifying housing patterns based on similarities of faades or floor plans; or (3) determining housing patterns based on physical properties, average values, frequencies or basic statistics. Although these methods allow you to determine housing mass or location changes of adjoining spaces, they stop short of explaining relations between rooms or differences in floor structures relative to correlations of rooms in similar floor plans. Therefore, this study is aimed at determining the process of changes in floor plans and rooms through the quantitative analysis of floor plans, relations between rooms, and their characteristics. To this end, this study uses the Gamma Analysis to numerically determine relations between rooms, spatial openness, functional concentration, and relations with other spaces; and analyzes the uncovered changes to translate them into characteristics of spatial formation and internal structural changes in housing plans. Analyzing floor plans belonging to different times and regions in relation to common analytic items available from the Gamma Analysis will enable you to uncover similarities and differences in the plans and to clarify their trends and spatial features by the regions. Hereto, the purpose of this study is to determine physical forms, the formative characteristics and changes in floor plans of houses that have been built since the 1960s in the areas of Seoul, Taegu, and Cheju, based on the Gamma Analysis, one of analytic methods of Space Syntax. Chapter 1 shows the study's background, purpose, objects, scope, and history of existing studies. Chapter 2 explains the theory of the Gamma Analysis, the process of interpreting and analyzing plans using the analysis, and its characteristics and limits. Chapter 3 shows the relations between housing forms and spaces by the regions; the analysis of housing floor plans by the regions; and the relations between changes in floor plans and spaces by the times. Chapter 4 analyzes spatial characteristics of rooms using Mean Depth, Integration Value, and Ring. Chapter 5 summarizesthe aforementioned chapters and draws a conclusion.
