As a part of resource biological research on fish appearing on the shore of Kwangyang Bay in Jollanam-do, this study investigated the species composition of floating eggs, larvae and fish caught with bonggo net between 1998 and 2002, analyzed the seasonal fluctuation in the abundance of these species and the community structure of larvae and fish, and examined the length frequency distribution of major species of fish. The survey on the water environment of Kwangyang Bay reveals that the mouth of Seomjin River with the great inflow of flesh water has the lowest level of water temperature and salt. The vertex 8 between Yeosu and Namhae islands turned out to be the most stabilized and highest place. The general level of pH turned out to be lowest inside Kwangyang Bay with the general standards of sea water being graded more than III and DO accounting 6.0 - 10.9mg/ f , whereas the vertex of the mouth of Seomjin River turned out to be highest. The research reveals that COD increases gradually year by year. In particular, the vertex in the neighborhood of the industrial complex inside Kwangyang Bay exceeds rank III in terms of the quality of sea water, which indicates that the quality of water is getting worse and worse. A total of 13 taxa eggs appeared in all seasons during the research period. They were divided into the eggs of Engraulis japonicas, Konosirus punctatus, Maurolisuc muelleri, Leiognathus nuchalis, Sillago japonica, Repomucenus sp. Argyrosomus argentatus, Platycephalus indicus, Callionycus sp. Cynoglossus sp. Soleoidei sp. Paralichthys oliuaceus and other eggs. Fall had a high frequency of egg appearance, whereas winter and spring had the lowest level of egg appearance. The research showed during the research period that larvae had a total of 7 orders, 22 families, 29 species, and 39 taxa, indicating that Perciformes fish had the most frequent appearance with 12 families, 15 species, and 16 taxa. In summer, 6 orders, 20 families, 26 taxa appeared most, and the survey showed that the percentage of Leiognathus nuchalis appearance accounted for 68.5%, being maximum dominant. The survey on changes in the yearly species composition revealed that the number of appearing species decreased gradually. This seems to be due to a decrease in the number of migratory fish caused by physical and chemical stimulus and changes in artificial environment in Kwangyang Bay. The survey on species composition reveals that the number of appearance species and the number of individuals increased little by little, showing that the dominant index of the eggs of Leiognathus nuchalis, which increase in accordance with changes in artificial environment, increases step by step. Fish gathered by otter trawls in Kwangyang Bay in the period ranging from 1998 to 2002 accounted for 12 orders, 50 families, 111 species and 59,895 individuals, the wet weight of which was 703,623.3g. Yearly species composition tended to gradually decrease in terms of the number of appearing species, the number of individuals and biomass. And the dominance index of Gobiidae fish or Leiognathus nuchalis with a strong power to stand environmental changes tended to increase. The yearly species diversity index(H') of larvae caught in Kwangyang Bay between 1998 and 2002 ranged between 1.75811.8246. It was the lowest in 2001, and the highest in 2000. The dominance index ranged between 0.5831--0.6994, highest in 2002 and lowest in 1999. It showed a pattern similar to that of the evenness index. With regard to the yearly similarity of communities, the relative distance difference was 0.0080 between 1999 and 2002, and 0.0403 between 1999 and 2000. This suggests that the community structures tend to be relatively similar. The yearly species diversity index (H') of fish caught in the coastal waters in Kwangyang Bay between 1998 and 2002 ranged between 0.6887-2.8261. It was the lowest in 1998, and the highest in 2002. The dominance index ranged between 0.3500-0.9126. It was the highest in 1998 and the lowest in 2002, contrary to the species diversity index. With regard to the yearly similarity of communities, the relative distance difference was the smallest at 0.0120, between 1999 and 2002. Thus the community structures were the most similar between the two years. The survey shows that Kwangyang Bay was greatest in terms of seasonal changes in water temperature and salt and there was a tendency for fish to be reduced due to a decrease in the quality of water environment and for Gobiidae fish or Leiognathus nuchalis, which tend to increase according to changes in artificial environment to increase in terms of dominant index. The research on changes in community structure reveals that larvae didn't show a clear tendency between vertexes, and that their species composition tended to change according to seasons. And it is found out that the community structure of fish based on changes in the environment of the sea area didn't show little difference between vertex and that the whole bay showed changes.
