LiNi_0.8Co_0.2O₂ and LiFePO₄ were synthesized by emulsion drying method for Lithium secondary battery cathode materials. Synthesized powders were characterized by ICP, XRD Rietveld refinement, SEM and electrochemical experiments. In the case of LiNi_0.8Co_0.2O₂, as-received LiNi_0.8Co_0.2O₂ powder was calcined at the temperature range 750℃~850℃ for 10 hours in oxygen atmosphere in order to investigate properties of the powder depended on calcination temperatures. Calcination temperature was determined by TGA result. From ICP, XRD Rietveld and electrochemical experiments, the powder which calcined at 800℃ showed the best electrode properties such as low cation mixing, high first discharge capacity(171mAh/g) and good cycleability. Therefore, it was concluded that the lower cation mixed powder show the best electrochemical property in LiNi_0.8Co_0.2O₂. LiFePO₄ precursor was successfully synthesized by emulsion drying method using Fe^3+ instead of Fe^2+ as Fe source. LiFePO₄ precursor was calcined at the temperature range 650℃~850℃ in Ar atmosphere. Then we obtained LiFePO₄ powders which showed smaller particle size about 500 nm. They also show higher discharge capacity and better cycleability than previous studies. Especially, the powder which was calcined at 750℃ showed 154mAh/g for discharge capacity and this value is 90% of theoretical discharge capacity. It may correlate to decreasing of lithium diffusion distance by decreasing of it's lattice parameter c.
