Effects of Connection Activities on Self-Respect and Social Friendly Behaviors in Parts of Ordinary Children and Children under Supervisory Accommodation in Accordance with the Type of the Activities원문보기

The purpose of this study is to clarify effects of connection activities on self-respect and social friendly behaviors in parts of ordinary children and those who are under supervisory accommodation provided the activities are divided into organizational and non-organizational ones considering their actual practices. For the purpose, the study selected 18 children under supervisory accommodation and 18 ordinary children among fourth, fifth and sixth grade students of C primary school located in Pusan. 12 students from each of the two groups were asked to be connected each other on one-to-one member basis into 12 pairs. These 12 pairs were divided into the two experimental sub-groups, each consisting of six students, respectively under organizational and non-organizational connection activities during group counseling. The rest 12 students, respectively six under supervisory accommodation and belonging to ordinary children, were regarded as the control group. Measurement devices under the program included the test of self-respect which had been initially developed by Coopersmith(1967) and then adapted by Sun Hwa Cho(1988), the tests of social friendly behaviors for teachers and children, respectively, which were translated and modified by Yeon Joo Lee(1966). Significant differences in types of such activity by the subject as a prime factor were verified using Kruskal-Wallis test with reference to such differences found by tests of social friendly behaviors above mentioned. The program of group counseling which was used for activities of organizational connection in this study was an outcome that the researcher had selected existing similar programs and rearranged them to be better suitable to primary school students. The program was applied once a week, totally 20 times over 6 months. Findings from the study can be briefly brought into the following conclusion. Activities of organizational connection, simultaneously implemented together with group counseling, are helpful to the promotion of children's self-respect. Effects of the activities are given to ordinary children, not to those who are under supervision by authorities concerned. The activities are evaluated as effective in promoting children's social friendly behaviors only from views of the younger people, but not lead to certain behaviors which may be clearly confirmed by teachers. Also the activities have effects on changing social friendly behaviors in part of ordinary children not those under supervisory accommodation. In conclusion, activities of organizational connection are effective positively in promoting ordinary children's self-respect and social friendly behaviors. In addition, the activities are useful to induce those children under supervision by authorities concerned to show inner changes in self-respect and such behaviors, although not significant. Considering the fact that such activities have been initially designed to the latter children group, it is necessary to analyze problems with the activities provided with the main objective of improving the self-respect and social friendly behaviors in part of children under public supervision.
