Flat end milling process is used widely in aircraft industry, auto-component and mold industry. Accordingly, the characteristics of form accuracy for the workpiece surface generated by end milling process have been a hot issue. Generally the form accuracy on the end-milled surface is affected by machine conditions, cutting conditions, tool geometries, tool deflection by cutting force and tool path and so forth. Hence, in this study, an experiment was carried out investigate to the effect of the cutting conditions controllable by the operator's intention on the form accuracy of end-milled surface except the other factors such as the machine conditions to be set up prior to the machining operation, any deflection which cannot be revised during the machining operation, etc. As the result of the experiment, the followings have been found ; 1. In the down-cut milling of periphery of the cylindrical shape using flat end milling tool, the form error has a great effect on form error at the Exit-region of tool path. 2. A equation which can rapidly predict the form error depending on radial ratio between tool and workpiece, radial depth of cut and tool path on cylindrical milling was made. The error on the two results by the equation and the experiment was within 5%. Therefore, it is found that the tool path which induces the minimum form error under the same cutting conditions, was the normal path. 3. The value of the form error is direct-proportions to material removal per tooth. As radial depth of cut and feed per tooth were increased independently, the value of the form error was increased. For the improvement of form accuracy on workpiece surface, it is recommended that feed per tooth and radial depth of cut should be small in case that the material removal per tooth is smaller than 0.12㎟/tooth.
