Poly(phenylene sulfide)(PPS)/Nylon66 blends were manufactured and their mechanical behavior and corresponding fracture morphologies analyzed, depending on various Nylon66 contents at different testing temperatures. Tensile tests showed that maximum stress decreased continually up to 7owt%PPS/30wt%Nylon66, however, increased with higher Nylon66 content. Strain at break did not change much up to 7owt%PPS/30wt%Nylon66 regardless of testing temperature. However, testing with more than 3owt% Nylon66 at 150℃ showed that, strain at break started to increase. Impact test results did not show an improved notched Izod impact strength up to 70wt%PPS/30wt%Nylon66, which is probably due to weak interfacial bonding between Nylon66 and matrix PPS. It could be also observed from the fracture surface morphology. Thus, at low and room temperature testing conditions, strain at break and impact strength improvement were not observed, and this was due to weak interfacial bonding. However, except tensile strength, modulus of elasticity, strain at break and impact strength did not decrease rapidly up to 70wt%PPS/30wt%Nylon66, which indicates a possibility of improving toughness of PPS/Nylon66 blends using a small amount of surface modifiers, by potentially increasing interfacial bonding.
