This study describes the characteristics of Odor and VOCs emitted in a sewage water treatment plant to provide the basic informations in the design of Odor and VOCs treatment processes. The sewage water plant treated only living sewage is selcted and it consists of a Flow Equalization Tnak, Thicker and Sludge Container. The experiments were carried out three times(June - July, 2001) and at that time the outside temperature was about 24-27℃. The GC/MS and GC/FPD were used the analyses of Odor and VOCs of samples. Odors emitted in sewage water treatment plant were ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, sytrene and dimethyl disulfide. The major compounds of Odor were hydrogen sulfide and ammonia having concentrations of 127ppb ∼ 499ppb and 2780ppb ∼ 3570ppb, respectively. The Odor Unit expressed as the ratio of measured concentration to threshold concentration of odors was found to be high in a Sludge Container, Flow Equalization Tank and Thicker Threshold concentration of Odors in consecutive order. VOCs emitted in sewage water treatment plant were Dichloromethane, Toluene, Ethylbenzene, m,p-Xylene, Styrene, 1,2,4,-Trimethylbenzene, 1,3-Dichlorobenzene, and 1,2-Dichlorobenzene. The major VOCs were benzene-related compounds and among them the concentration of toulene was the highest. The concentraiton of VOCs was found to be high in a Sludge Container, Flow Equalization Tank and an Thicker in consecutive order.
