Most likely the piano lesson offers children the first opportunity to experience music in Korea. Korea has been building a reputation as a country where many talented pianists are being raised. However, our educational environment is neither interesting nor effective for young pianists(grade school students)' Therefore, this research will focus on introducing the new method in music education through Prokofiev's works for children. This will help children to understand and approach to modern music easily. Prokofiev's "Music for Children Op.65" contains some interesting modern technics that are good for children. His works also has titles and stories that suits children's emotion. Furthermore, his works are expressive and rich in melodies, yet simple and easy to understand. His works are done in easy modern way as well. Prokofiev's works are desirable for early intermediate student since they have various musical characters. The use of cyclic unification in form, contrapuntal technique, elements of toccata, unexpected modulation, percussive sound, satirical elements, are characteristics of his music. Also melody tends to have big leaps, dissonances, and yet very expressive. This research studies Prokofiev's life and his musical characteristics in general, then provide musical analysis and teaching strategies of Op.65. Question and answer approach has been used to suggest the teaching method. The questions are designed to help children to have creative experience through their own emotions and ideas. This experience will also guide children to apply to other repertoires. Finally, I want to draw attention to many other modern music written by composers like Kavalevsky, Bartok, Gretcheninoff, to name few. Instead of traditional repertoire such as Czerny and classical Sonatine, these will bring new musical experience and interest to children. I hope this research would help other teachers to understand Prokofiev's works and to develop more effective teaching method. Eventually, this will be a milestone for teachers to teach other modern music with broaden interpretation and imagination.
