This study was carried out to investigate the effects in the various levels of strip clear-cutting (20m×50m uncut, 6m×50m cutting, 10m×50m cutting, 20m×50m cutting) on the distribution of ectomycorrhizal fruit bodies and soil microarthropods in Pinus rigida plantations. The results were as follows; A total of 2 subdivisions, 2 classes, 3 subclasses, 8 orders, 29 families, 61 genera and 136 species (one variety) of fungi were appeared in Pinus rigida plantations during the study period. Ectomycorrhizal fruit bodies among them were 9 families, 16 genera, 63 species (one variety) and 2,533 individuals. Dorminant species were Russulaceae(21 species), followed by Amanitaceae(13 species) and Boletaceae(12 species). The number of individuals were in the order of Xerocomus subtomentosus(976 individuals), Cantharellus cinnabarinus (238 individuals) and C cibarius (173 individuals). The development of fungi was closely related to climatic conditions such as air temperature, relative humidity and rainfall pattens between July and August. The development of fungi in various levels of clear-cutting was 1.63 individuals/㎡ in 20m×50m uncut, 0.89 individuals/㎡ in 6m×50m cutting, 0.83 individuals/㎡ in 10m×50m cutting, and 0.22 individuals/㎡ in 20m×50m cutting. According to the affinity of host tree, X. subtomentosus and Russula nigricans had the host selection for Pinus rigida, while Cantharellus cinnabarinus preferred to chestnut(Castanea crenata) and oak trees(Quercus acutissima, Q. serrata) in cutting area. The correlation analysis between environmental factors and development of ectomycorrhizal fruit bodies showed a negative correlation with ground cover percentage(r= -0.515^*), whereas a positive correlation was found between litter decomposition rates(r= 0.474^*) and litter inputs(r= 0.526^**). In soil property, a positive correlation was found among soil pH(r =0.502^*), organic matter(r= 0.474^*), T-N(r= 0.650^**), and CEC(r= 0.688^**). In weather conditions, temperature {high(r= 0.296^*), low(r= 0.490^**), mean(r= 0.426^**)}, relative humidity(r= 0.480^**) and rainfall(r= 0.300^*) had a positive correlation. The soil microarthropods collotted in P. rigida plantations were 551,873 individuals and were identified into 21 orders in 7 classes during the study periods. The 7 classes were classified into Arachnida, Insecta, Malacostra, Pauropoda, Diplopoda, Chilopoda and Symphyla. The population density of the soil microarthropods was 252,942 individuals in the control area, 192,135 individuals in the reserve area and 106,796 individuals in the cutting area. The microarthropods in the control area were 2 times higher than those in the cutting area. The total soil microarthropods were occupied with 58.8% in Arachnida and 40.7% in Insecta. Both groups involved 99.5% of total soil microarthropods. According to the relative population density, Acari was 99.1% of Arachnida and Collembola was 94.4% of Insecta Acari and Collembola were occupied with 96.7% of the total individuals, followed by 0.8% of Hymenoptera, 0.6% of Diptera and 0.4% of Pseudoscorpiones. According to the distribution of population density between soil microarthropods and cutting areas, Acari and Collembola showed decreased density in cutting area, but uncut and reserve areas were not different. The density of the soil microarthropods fluctuated seasonally. The population density decreased in summer or winter, and increased in fall or spring. There was a positive linear relationship between the density of Acari (r²= 0.552) or Collembola(r²= 0.432) and soil pH. In terms of weather conditions, total soil microarthropods showed negative correlation with rainfall(r= -0.343^*). In addition, Acari was negatively correlated with high temperature(r= -0.434^**), low temperature(r= -0.502^**), mean temperature (r= -0.489^**), and rainfall(r= -0.485^**). In contrast, other soil microarthropods showed positive correlations with temperature(r= 0.448^**). In summary, the results indicate that various levels of strip cutting reduced the number of ectomycorrhizal fruit bodies and soil microarthropods in P. rigida plantations. The number of ectomycorrhizal fruit bodies decreased more than 50% in 6m×50m cutting or 10m×50m cutting areas compared with 20m×50m uncut areas. The individual number of ectomycorrhizal fruit bodies in 20m×50m cutting were only 14% of those in 20m×50m uncut areas. Also, the number of total soil microarthropods in cutting areas were 42% of uncut areas, but reserve areas were 75% of uncut areas. The results suggest that 10m wide cutting and reserve areas between cutting areas might be more favorable to restore the inhabitation environment of eoctomycorrhizal fruit bodies and soil microarthropods in P. rigida plantations.
