Recently, one of the purposes of park usage is the function of environmental education which has gained the majority of popularity in Seoul. Therefore this study was performed by analyzing the states and problems of nature classrooms of nearby parks and citizen's parks which are located in residential areas in Seoul, and by researching the actual conditions of people who use nature classrooms and by suggesting improved methods and user programs. The results of this study were summarized as follows. 1) There are 18 parks out of 281 nearby parks and citizens which have the nature classrooms in Seoul. Facilities of nature classroom were researched a signal of nature classroom, a direction sign, plant name card, pond, pavilion, pergola, bench, green house, a waste basket, lighting, drinking fountain and others. However, they have many problems in quality. Nature classrooms were classified into three types according to the location in park. Among the three types, the most popular type was the one that being a part of a park. Total of 479 species of plant (155 species in tree, 324 species in herb), were planted in nature classrooms. The questionnaire consisted of the actual condition of usage, recognition state and facilities condition in order to understand the present condition and satisfaction/unsatisfaction of people who use the nature classrooms in parks. According to the results, some answers have showed a different trend by sex and age. There are many kinds of environmental education user program, but these are not related connected with the nature classroom in park. Most of nature education program in nature classroom was self-guided education. 2) Problems appeared I found through this study were the featureless place composition, the lack of programs related with nature classrooms, the restriction of observing the contents of natural studies, and so on. 3) Finally, this study showed many suggestions to solve the problems of nature classroom in city park. First, use all around the park to learn nature. Second, make peculiar shapes and composition of nature classroom according to the variety of themes. Third, set up the interesting panel and a leaflet for more active self-guided education. Fourth, develop the environmental education user program applying the nature classrooms. City park have a great practical potential as a place for environmental education. Therefore, if the improvement methods that I mentioned above are applied to city parks, we can expect not only get a great using park effect, but also increase the opportunity that learn nature.
