The purpose of this study is to explain the techniques of Borrowed Landscape. For the purpose, this researcher surveyed local architectural spaces in terms of the applications and means of the techniques and correlations between the techniques and the architectural spaces. The study was carried out in the following procedure. Chapter I as introduction discussed the background, purpose and method of the study. Chapter Ⅱ discussed previous studies, styles and principles of borrowed landscape. Chapter Ⅲ reviewed examples of such landscape found in the collection of 100 landscape paintings by Kyumjae Jung Sun. In Chapter Ⅳ, the researcher conducted a field survey of construction spaces of this nation and analyzed borrowed landscape for each of the spaces. Chapter V made a conclusion based on the results of the analysis. Results of the study can be described as follows ; 1. Spaces and Means for Borrowed Landscape Spaces for borrowed landscape were classified here considering the fact that landscape is analyzed according to its space and shape. Spaces for the techniques were classified into most neighboring, self-expansion, border and visual expansion spaces. Means for borrowed landscape include windows, Korean window-papers, doors, floors, columns, railings, eaves, roofs(ridges), stylobate(stone platform), arbors, towers, castles, shrines, anchors and sails. stairs, branches, stone lamps, yards, cliffs, bridges, walls, forest, rocks, mountains, fog, clouds, water surfaces(waves) and the sky. 2. Korea's Techniques of Borrowed Landscape Techniques of borrowed landscape used in this nation include fencing, blurring, hanging, framing, filtering arid emptiness. First, fencing is a technique in which an image between an environmental image, located near a spectator, and a distant one is screened by a cutting, horizontal line. In this case, the means of the technique may include walls, roofs(ridges), fog and clouds. Second, blurring is a technique in which images are viewed through between branches. In this case, distant images are indirectly seen and mixedly experienced. Third, hanging is a technique in which a distant image is seen in association with a medium above it. In this case, eaves may be the means of the technique. Fourth, framing is a technique in which a range of vision is limited. In relation, windows, doors, roofs(ridges) or virtual lines of the eaves may be used. Fifth, filtering is a synesthetic technique that uses both sight and hearing senses and uses Korean window-papers as means for borrowed landscape. Finally, emptiness is a technique in which one space absorbs all spatial images. The sky which contains everything and yards may be used for the technique. 3. Correlations between Techniques of Borrowed Landscape and Local Architectural Spaces Considering all these findings from the study, the researcher surveyed correlations between borrowed landscape techniques and this nation's architectural spaces. Borrowed landscape was applied to yard and border areas in garden construction and such parts and detached and main building areas in traditional housing construction. Such techniques can be also found in the gate, storied building, lecture hall and attached building areas of Confucian service halls and in the gate and building(main building, keumdang and lecture hall) areas of temples. Such techniques as used in gardens and traditional housings can be also found in royal palaces. Forest is used as a means for of borrowed landscape for tomb areas. Here researches about borrowed landscape techniques also aimed at making experienced spaces relevant to the techniques. In conclusion, techniques of borrowed landscape are very significant as those of spatial design when considered from modem views of landscape design and environmental design(related to civil engineering, architecture, landscaping, urban area, arts).
