(A) study on the Formation of defects in the laser welding fusion zone between sintered Fe-Co-W segment and mild steel shank원문보기

Laser welding is profitable method for the manufacture of diamond tool owing to the less heat deformation, less environmental pollution and small welding disparity. However, defects such as crack and cavity can be generated in the laser welding of low-carbon steel shank and sintered tip of Fe-Co-W. These defects deteriorate the quality of tool. In the present work, in order to reduce the defects in the laser welding process of low-carbon steel shank and sintered tip of Fe-Co-W, the effect of position of laser beam and heat input is investigated carefully on the formation of defects. Full penetration has been observed for the whole range of heat input investigated in the present work. The ripple line which was caused by imperfect mixing in the fusion zone, was found in the weld bead. Fe rich needle-like phase and Co, W rich cellular dendrite phase are formed in the weld bead. Most cavities were found near the tip, and supposed to be formed from the pore in the tip. The ratio of total cavity area to the entire weld bead area was not changed significantly with the heat input. With increase of heat input small cavities were decreased while large cavities were increased. Cracks were found along the grain boundary and dendrite boundary. W component was observed to be rich in grain boundary and dendrite boundary. Total length and maximum length of crack were decreased with the increase of heat input. Therefore, cracks were supposed to be formed by the formation of W containing phase of low melting point near the grain boundary and dendrite boundary and heat stress generated during the solidification.
