In this study, temperature and pressure measuring system was installed and subsequently the variations of temperature and pressure in cavity have been observed during injection molding accessing to the operational variables, such as mold temperature, resin temperature, and injection pressure in the machine. Direct pressure measuring sensor (KESTREL Type 6157BA) and temperature measuring sensor (KISTREL Type 6192Asp) were used as measuring sensors. Measured data were obtained from DATAFROW Plus through charging amplifier and converter, adapter box. RAG IDE140EN (l0oz) was used as an injection molding machine and polypropylene (LG. H550) was used as a resin. The shape of cavity was constructed as width 60 mm, height 40 mm and thickness 2 mm rectangle plate with ribs. To install sensors in the mold, space for sensor hole and sensor cable was prepared in the core retainer plate and cavity. Appropriate ranges of experimental variables were decided by sample injection and sheet shot experiments. Three pressure data and three temperature data were obtained from DATAFLOW plus ay each experiment as form of day file and then those data were converted yo sc., may and pay file yo print out through PC window for analysis. The measured temperature of cavity was much lower than resin injection temperature and it depended upon mold temperature rather than resin injection temperature. Since the temperature sensor contacted with the cold melt front. Melt front was firstly contacted with cold air that was near mold temperature and it cooled down very fast. The melt front always contacts with cavity surface by fountain flow. As injection pressure increased measured pressure in the cavity increased. However, when injection pressure was very high (908bar), the measured pressure in cavity was not so much high. When packing pressure was insufficient, cavity pressure was going down after a peak pressure that was the last step of packing pressure in the cavity. Pressure and temperature were highly sensitive yo mold temperature and those were varied 16% and 35% respectively with respect to various mold temperatures. The calculated pressure by CAE simulation showed good agreement with measured temperature however calculated temperature showed different from measured temperature. It is interpreted that this discrepancy relates with the boundary conditions in the CAE program.
