This study is focused on providing the basic materials for improving the method of autonomous supervision in school which was appropriate to the real situation of each school by grasping the teachers' recognition and the actual condition of manage-ment which was based on the autonomous supervision in school in the real edu-cation field. For this purpose the research questions were as follows; First, what's the teacher's recognition about the autonomous supervision in sch- ool? Second, how's the autonomous supervision in school managed? Third, what's the problem of the autonomous supervision in school and how will be possible to accomplish improvements of them? To accomplish the goal above, I surveyed 320 teachers working in Dae-jeon metropolitan city were sampled. A survey questionaire was consisted of 31 ques-tions in 2 fields, made out four-stage multiple-choice test and the fivestage Likert rating measurement. The processing and analyzing of the data collected from the study produced the mean values and standard deviations by using the SPSS/PC + 9.0 statistical package and x²-tests, the frequency analysis, and the collective comparison of the mean values. And the conclusions through the data analysis to compensate some problems were as follows ; First, most teachers thinks importantly about the need of autonomous supervision in school but in the method of management they showed some differences. That is, short-term career teachers preferred the clinical supervision, long-term career teachers preferred the clinical supervision, and mid-term career teachers was less interested in the activity of the supervision. Second, even though most schools planned and implemented the autonomous supervision in school whatever the form of it was, the frequency of the planning and implementing have a great deal of difference according to the scale of the school. Specially, on the scale of from 24 to 36 class autonomous supervision in school put into active operation. Third, the lack of time, outdated educational facilities and the insufficient coun-selling ability about instructional guidance of supervisor in charge were the inter-fering factor of the autonomous supervision in school. It is necessarily required of the active interests of all members in school. Fourth, most schools are trying to change formal and administrative supervision into practical and substantial supervision, because the focus of autonomous super-vision in school is on the improvement of classroom instruction and instructional skills and the direction of supervision is lying in the improvement in teaching and learning. Fifth, the group of short-term career teachers and women teachers is very positive at the clinical supervision and the improvement of instructional quality and partici-pation at the model teaching class, and they expected the activatization of the same-grade or same-subject group activities as well as a workshop class. On the basis of the study results above, the conclusions for the improvement way of teacher's recognition and real management about the autonomous supervi-sion in school can be made, as follows: First, as most teachers have preference to the autonomous supervision in school premised to the appropriate relationship between counselor and teacher for acti-vating the autonomous supervision in school, it is needed that expand the opportu-nities of autonomous training activities and instructional study, provide the chance to enhance the instructional quality and actively change to the intentional plan about the supervising activities. Second, the converted attitude will be needed to manage effectively. That is, the required effect by enhancing the system of feedback during the thorough process of planning-implementing-assessing in the instructional supervision is directly applied and we need very progressive attitude, such as share the results of the instructional supervison, study and develop for the new way of teaching. Third, the change into the classroom supervision centered on instructional improve-ment, endless self-endeavor of supervisors and physical environment and school atmosphere to stimulate for teachers to participate actively is needed to release the interfering factor such as the lack of time, outdated educational facilities, insuffi-cient ability of supervisors and decline of teachers' participatory enthusiasm.
