As the event environment is rapidly developing and changing, event PD''s role is being appreciated as an important success factor of events. Considering that event PD''s quality is equated with event quality, it is deemed necessary to analyze the determinants affecting their job satisfaction and thereupon, improve their working environment to solidify the ground for development of events in Korea. The purpose of this study was to 1) analyze the determinants affecting event PD''s job satisfaction - they were classified into existence needs, relatedness needs and growth needs and again into their sub-factors according to Alderfer''s ERG theory - and 2) determine the correlations between those sub-factors of three types of needs and event PD''s job satisfaction depending on such variables as career length, annual salary and scale of company. For this purpose, preceding studies and literature about broadcasting and advertising were reviewed, and thereupon, event PDs were interviewed, and thereafter, a questionnaire survey was conducted; the questionnaire consisted of the items measuring importance of the determinants affecting job satisfaction, those measuring the general job satisfaction and those measuring the attributes of subjects'' demographic variables. In order to test the hypotheses for this study, the SPSS 10.0 statistic program was used for statistical processing, particularly for factor analysis, reliability analysis, frequency analysis, ANOVA, multiple regression analysis and correlation analysis. The results of this study can be summarized as follows;First, since the event PDs were paid less with shorter career, working mostly for small companies, they tended to put emphasis on growth needs or the uppermost needs in the hierarchy of ERG needs, but they were less satisfied with their job because of lower pay and a sense of financial instability. The reasons for their lower job satisfaction may be manifold, but as the event business is still dominated by the apprenticeship, the cause of practicing seems to overwhelm the desire for a reasonable pay. Although such problems may not be solved immediately, we need to recognize that a reasonable wage system would lead ultimately to development of event business community and therefore, make efforts urgently to help event PDs solve their basic needs or existence needs.Second, the event PDs who were paid relatively much with a longer career, working for comparatively stable companies, tended to count financial stability and self-achievement through work as major determinants of job satisfaction. Such a finding suggests that they may desire to work independently because an independent engagement in their job would warranty higher income and more financial stability for them. Anyway, at this stage of the event businesses being stabilized, it is deemed required of the entire event business community to discuss the ways to rearrange the event businesses and thereby, prevent petty event businesses.Third, while most of the event PDs regarded a sense of usefulness of their job as the foremost determinant of their job satisfaction, those PDs with longer career and higher sense of self-achievement counted the sense of self-achievement as primary determinant of their job satisfaction. Such a finding seems to betray the common belief that ''event PDs live on their dreams and therefore, the young generation are most eligible for the job.'' This study proposed that a merit system rewarding their performances should be systemized by the event business community to help event PDs enhance their job capacity for a higher sense of self-achievement, and in the longer term, that the bidding systems of central and local governments should be reformed and that a license system operated by government or an event PD society should be introduced to enhance the professionalism of event business.
