PAN and pitch-based carbon nano-web were prepared from electrostatic-spun. The fiber was stabilized, carbonized, and oxyfluorinated on surface. The structure and properties of fibers were examined by SEM, BET, pH meter, and goniometer. Nanofiber webs were prepared by electrostatic spinnings with the solutions of PAN dissolved DMF. Uniform fibers were obtained from 15 wt.% PAN solution in DMF. The diameter of the fibers ranged from 200 nm to 500 nm depending on PAN concentrations applied DC voltage, and tip distance. The petroleum-derived isotropic pitch solution in tetrahydrofuran (THF) was successively spun to term the web using electrospinning. The spinnability was enhanced by filtering out the dimethylformamide (DMF) soluble fraction and increased pitch concentration. Uniform fibers were obtained from 35 wt.% DMF insoluble pitch (DIP) solution in THF. The fibers are shaped as ribbon like, and the cross-section of fibers shows as the cocoon like which has directional difference in size 3-9㎛ in long axis and 2-4㎛ in short axis. The electrospun carbon fiber web from the petroleum-derived isotropic pitch precursor was successively activated by CO_(2) gases activation at 800, and 900℃ for 1 h, 2 h, and 3 h. Not only an decrease of the surface area but also an increase of the pore size were occurred with increase the activation temperature. Because the activated carbon fibers prepared from E-spun are very fine, and the specific surface area is considered to decrease by unifications of the micropores rather than creations of more micropores at fiber surface with elevated activation temperature. All samples have high surface area of over 1100㎡/g as well as homogeneous microporosity. This result suggests that the E-spun pitch-based ACFs have the more development of micropores and homogeneous microporosity, which could find a useful application hydrogen storage. For the future work, the diameter of Pitch fiber will be reduced by electrospinning.
