This paper's purpose is to find out new structure of definition that the images of Ki Hyungdo's poems create through examining his poems centered on the image. Traditional study of Ki Hyungdo's poems have been mainly conveyed through examining the image or investigating his world view. However, in the case of examining the image, capturing variety of form of image and analyzing its meaning still remain unfinished. Therefore, capturing many images that are repeatedly shown in Ki Hyungdo's poems and constructing the definition of what the images create will be a meaningful work. This paper is trying to view Ki Hyungdo's poems centering on its images. To distinguish this study from other dissertations written upon studying the poems' images this paper takes new point of view and new classification of the images. So in order to study Ki Hyungdo's own world of creativity, this paper divided material imagination such as fog, rain, snow, wind, fire from atmospherical imagination such as lost-ness, closed-ness, archaism then came to the conclusion that these images are rooted from loneliness and sense of enstrangement in the troubled world and they create unified poetic wholeness. To Ki Hyungdo, his unique material imagination has been expressed through poetic association. The world in which Ki Hyungdo resided was where it rained, snowed, fogged, and blew wind. In the poet's time of youth, wind was a formidable entity that brought pain and suffering and was his fear of the world. The world which the poet experienced after he became an adult was not much different from that he used to fear. The fog in the world concealed the society's unjust structure and severed people's relationship. So to him life was as meaningless as pouring rain and was something that flies in the wind unable to settle down just like snow. He tries to materialize fire but the light is too weak and doesn't burn greatly. Ki Hyungdo's atmospherical imagination was shaped through his effort to see the reality for what it is and honestly express his inner-self while trying to live in such reality. The world in which Ki Hyungdo had to live was a world that did not allow defiance but only obeying silence. He struggles and suffers as he too keeps quiet unable to face and define the reality. Unlike others who managed to cope with the reality and be satisfied, he rejected it which led to his isolation. That loneliness and sense of enstrangement was materialized in images. He had a pure and honest soul which could be blended with the fallen world. As the result of studying Ki Hyungdo's poems through his material and atmospherical imagination, it was clear that the inter-connected and harmonized images were showing the poet's unique poetic view of the world. Observing and understanding the connections created by the images in the poets, new approach to the definition of Ki Hyungdo's poets was possible.
