정약용 철학의 형성과 체계에 관한 연구 : 주자학과 서학에 대한 비판적 수용과정을 중심으로 (A)study on the formation and system of Chŏng Yagyong's philosophy : centered upon the critically receptive process of Zhu Xi's thought and Matteo Ricci's thought원문보기

1. Chŏng Yagyong(丁若鏞: 1762-1836) has been considered as a philosopher who synthesised the late Chosŏn(朝鮮)'s movements of Silhak(實學). For his masterpiece, Yeoyudangjŏnsŏ(與猶堂全書) dealt with the various issues about philosophy, history, politics, sociology, science, etc. according to the spirits of Silhak. Like many great philosophers, Chŏng Yagyong's systematical philosophy was not originated from the solitary speculation. He wrestled with Zhu xi(朱熹: 1130-1200)'s philosophy, the western thought tradition, and the political and social issues of the late Chosŏn. Especially it was important that he has the continuity as well as discontinuity the with Zhu xi's philosophy. Until now many scholars have regarded Chŏng Yagyong's philosophy to be opposite to Zhu xi's philosophy, namely, Jujahak(朱子學). But I think we need pay attention to the continuity between them. Of course we need examine the continuity as well as discontinuity the with Sŏhak(西學) of Matteo Ricci(1552-1610)'s Chŏnjusilyui(天主實義), which represented the western thought tradition. Furthermore his relation with Jŏngjo(正祖: 1752-1800), king of Chosŏn(朝鮮), was critically examined. Through the theses examinations, the system of Chŏng Yagyong's philosophy and the organic relation between his Gyeonghak(經學) and Gyeongseihak(經世學) could become clear.2. Zhu xi's philosophy is the metaphysical system centered upon the concept of Taeguek(太極) and Liyilbunsu(理一分殊). According to Zhu xi's thought, everything accepts the principle of Taeguek(太極) and preserves it as his nature. He described the human nature as Inyuiyeiji(仁義禮智), and thought that we should cultivate this nature before the emotions of Hinoaerak(喜怒哀樂) was issued. In late 16th, Matteo Ricci deconstructed the Zhu xi's doctrine of Ligi(理氣) in order to propagate the Christianity in China. Like Aristotelian's notion of substance, Matteo Ricci regarded Gi(氣) as self-subsistent substance and Li(理) as dependent attribute. Furthermore he stressed the peculiarity of human nature as having the free-will. In late 18th, Chŏng Yagyong criticized Zhu xi's notions of Taeguek and Liyilbunsu, and stressed the supervision of Sangjei(上帝) instead of the absoluteness of Li. In fact his critical logic and method was influenced by Matteo Ricci(1552-1610)'s Chŏnjusilyui. Through Matteo Ricci's influence, he criticized Zhu xi's metaphysical doctrine of human nature and self-cultivation, and stressed the human free-will and practical moral life.2. In 1801, Chŏng Yagyong was banished into a far-off district. At the place of exile, he paid attention to the classical doctrine of human nature and self-cultivation through re-reading the Confucian classics. Especially he was greatly influenced by the doctrine of Jibjung(執中) from Sansŏ(尙書) and Junghwa(中和) from Jungyong(中庸). According to Chŏng Yagyong's thought, the doctrine of Jibjung was similar to the doctrine of Sindog(愼獨) and Sŏngyui(誠意) as well as the doctrine of Solsŏng(率性) and Jondogsŏng(尊德性). In addition, He stressed the doctrines of Insimdosim(人心道心), Geuggibogrye(克己復禮), and Daechaesochae(大體小體) as the classical theory of self-cultivation. Paying attention to the classical doctrine of self-cultivation and apriori moral sentiments, he newly evaluated the classical notion of Sangjei against the Sŏhak's God. His Sangjei intervenes in human moral situation with the mediation of the order of Dosim(道心) or Chŏnmyeongjisŏng(天命之性). According to his doctrine of Sŏnggiho(性嗜好), human mind has Sŏng(性) as one faculty of mind, that is, the spontaneous ethical tendency. In addition, Chŏng Yagyong established the doctrine of Gwonhyeng(權衡), which human mind has as another faculty of mind, namely, free-will capacity. His new established system caused him to re-evaluate the several aspects of Zhu xi's philosophy through the doctrine of Insimdosim from Sansŏ(尙書).4. The doctrine of Insimdosim, which constituted the system of Chŏng Yagyong's theory of human nature, was based upon the notions of Dosim as ethical mind and Sŏng as Chŏnmyeong. Through stressing the apriori ethical tendency, he became different from Matteo Ricci, who stressed the intellectual moral judgment. Also Chŏng Yagyong continued to criticize the Zhu xi's metaphysical notion of human nature, namely, Bonyeonjisŏng(本然之性), which he regarded to be originated from the Buddhism. However he accepted Zhu xi's doctrine of Insimdosim. Nevertheless he rejected Zhu xi's interpretations of Yujŏngyuil(惟精惟一) and Yunjibgweoljung(允執厥中) in the preface of Jungyong. For unlike Zhu xi, who regarded two phrases as describing the result of self-cultivation, Chŏng Yagyong interpreted two phrases as describing the process of self-cultivation. Critically examining Matteo Ricci's Sŏhak and Zhu xi's philosophy, he established the peculiar theory of human nature and self-cultivation. On the basis of this philosophical foundations, he proposed the political positions, that is, Gyeongseihak. His political philosophy was based upon the interpretations of Sansŏ's doctrine of Hwangguek(皇極) and Jiinanmin(知人安民). He expressed his own political position as the phrase of Jŏnggiijŏngmul(正己以正物). His Gyeongseihak was intended to newly establish the political doctrine of Yuwi(有爲) in behalf of Jŏngjo and incapacitate the political doctrine of Muwi(無爲), which Jŏngjo and the ruling part accepted. As a result, Chŏng Yagyong's philosophy was continuous as well as discontinuous with Matteo Ricci's Sŏhak, Zhu xi's philosophy and Jŏngjo's political position. Thus Chŏng Yagyong's philosophical peculiarity was between this continuity and discontinuity.
