This study examines elementary school teachers development stages, teachers job satisfaction level and the relations between the two. The study focused on the following questions: First, are there differences in teachers development trend depending on ones background? Second, are there differences in job satisfaction level depending on ones background? Third, what development stages do teachers go through during their teaching life? Fourth, what are the differences in job satisfaction level depending on ones development stage? To find answers for above questions, 304 elementary teachers in Kangwon Province were randomly chosen for the survey. The study used questionnaires about teachers development trend and job satisfaction. Statistics for the results of the survey were calculated using the SPSS program(Version 12.0). The mean (M) and standard deviation (SD) were used, and T-test and F-test were conducted to identify the differences among various groups. The Scheffe test was used for subsequent verification. The results are as follows: First, significant differences were shown in the teachers development procedure depending on teachers gender, school location, school size, experience, position, education background and marital status. Among the teachers development stages, the stage of growth(M=3.6074) was most highly recognized by teachers and the rest came in the order of the stage of mastery(M=3.4931), the stage of security(M=3.3273), the stage of Promotion-directed(M=2.4622), the stage of survival(M=2.3033) and the stage of career-breakdown(M=2.0662). Second, significant differences were found in job satisfaction level in accordance with the background of individual teachers. An average job satisfaction rate of teachers was 3.3781, higher than the average of total job satisfaction rate. Sub-areas included friendship among colleagues(M=3.9218), a sense of responsibility as a teacher(M=3.8419), autonomy(M=3.5069), innovation(M=3.2328), advancement(M=3.1065), compensation(M=3.0747) and burden from work(M=2.8419). Third, the study found that teachers attitude, value, interest, knowledge and function change and develop along with their experience. This study classified teachers advancement stages into 4 categories based on the period of teaching experience: the stage of survival(1-6 years), the stage of growth(7-15 years), the stage of promotion-directed(16-27 years) and the stage of mastery(28 years and more). Fourth, job satisfaction level among teachers in different stages of advancement showed significant differences in innovation, a sense of responsibility as a teacher, burden from work and advancement, except for friendship among colleagues. For innovation, teachers in the stage of promotion-directed had high satisfaction rate, whereas those in the stage of survival had low satisfaction level. In terms of a sense of responsibility as a teacher, satisfaction was high among teachers in the stage of promotion-directed but the opposite was true for those in the stage of growth. With burden from work, those in the mastery stage had high satisfaction and those in the growth stage showed lower rate. Regarding compensation, teachers in the stage of growth showed high satisfaction but the ones in the stage of mastery indicated low satisfaction. As for advancement, those in the stage of promotion-directed were fairly satisfied whereas those in the stage of mastery were not. Teachers in the stage of promotion-directed had high satisfaction toward autonomy, while that of teachers in the survival stage was low. The study found out that job satisfaction can vary depending on the stage of development. Against this backdrop, one should first identify the stage of development where teachers belong to and come up with different measures by stages. Considering the fact that job satisfaction can bring about positive outcomes in the education activities, it is necessary to devise appropriate policies to increase job satisfaction levels according to the stages of development.
