In this modern society of standardization with high technology and information flood, consumers seem to have stronger desire for more distinctive and individualdesign. To satisfy this desire, the modern clothes should be approached and articulated in artistic dimension to obtain some unique and creative design. Though there can be a varietyof ways to creation of the artistic design, we would be able to get more creative design when the excellent costume designs of the past are reinterpreted with current perspective. Among those from the past, the sheet metal armor of modern Europe, which was worn not ordinarily, is now greatly esteemed not only for its practical use but also for the artistic aspect, and several museums around the world are displaying it. In this study, I made the product stimulated by this armor. The main material used is natural leather, which has inimitable luster and tactility and can effectively show formative beauty with different ways of expression. Although natural leather is more durable and warmer than textiles, it is expensive and limited to season. So its development is showing poor progress comparing to general textiles. So through this study, I introducedformative design as silhouette, form line, detail of the modern European armor in leather clothes and created unique design to expand the domain of expression of the present leather clothes. For the theoretical foundation of the study, I searched the history and style of each area through documentary records, collected constitution elements of the model (the modern European armor) and had a case study on introducing the image of armors in present dressing. I gave theoretical consideration for the main material, natural leather and looked through the history of leather clothing from the ancient through the present. Then I studied on the features and sorts of leather through documents, market research, and the Internet, analyzed expression techniques in leather design, and examined the representative leather dress of today's fashion. Based on these, I have produced 6 formations in total 2 formations of jacket and slacks, 2 formations of jacket and skirt, 1 formation of vest and slacks, and a half-coat. This is motivated by formative organization of the modern European armor and silhouette and each is differentiated in tactility, luster, color, and pattern. I could conclude the followings from this study. Firstly, I found out that the modern European armor with some artistic decorations can give a nice motive when reinterpreted in present fashion, and the organization line and detail of the armor can be seen as some ornate element in today's fashion. Secondly, silhouette and function line of the armor, which were expressed as trait of metal material, are now used as formative and ornamental design in leather dress. Thirdly, I could see the potential of developing the exclusive form or tactility from leather when natural leather is expressed with material technique as tuck, piping, slit, and quilting. Lastly, I can emphasize formative feature with applying texture contrast of various leather made up of monotone color in introducing leather clothes into distinctive aspect division composition of armor. This time I could emboss excellence of the armor motive and natural leather by expressing formative pre-eminence in leather clothes, provoked by the sheet metal armor of modern Europe, which was not considered seriously in the dressing history regardless of its beauty. I am now sure that an item motivated by the Oriental armor will be superb as well. Furthermore,I expect future revival ofleather clothes industry utilizing the peculiarity of natural leather.
