This study aims to inquire into the improvements of Korean students' rights through examining and analyzing the cases and degrees of recognition of students' rights.
The research method to accomplish this aim was a questionnaire survey administered to 700 of secondary schools' (430)students and (270)teachers in Jeollabukdo. Collected data was processed with the SPSS 12.0 and the verification between the variables was conducted with t-test and F-test, and the significance was tested in the levels of 5%, 1% and 0.1%.
The major findings of this study are as follows :
First, when it comes to students' rights in school, there is a significant difference between student and teacher groups. Especially, the recognition of students' liberalization of hair style is very different between the two groups. Students' free hair style is negativelyrecognized by the teacher group. This finding shows there still exists an infringement on students' rights,
Second, The recognition of school regulations for students is different between student and teacher groups. Teacher groups compared with student groups strongly agreed that students observe school regulations. This also implies violation of students' rights becausestudents' participation in the process of establishing the regulations is excluded.
Lastly, the recognition of education of human rights also shows a difference between two groups. As proper curricula and adequate contents of human rights are not offered to students, they don't get the opportunity for approaching the concept of human rights. So, this is one serious problem violating students' rights.
Accordingly, in order to improve students' rights, this thesis has the following recommendations:
First, we need to establish detailed guidelines for student discipline protecting their rights.
Second, we need to establish a communication network system that is democratic through student participation.
Lastly, education regarding human rights for students and teachers must be implemented through establishment of regular lessons on human rights for students and teachers. Teacher in-service training programs related to human rights should be taught.
