This study were conducted to examine the differences in children's self-perceived competence and behavior problems by children's and parent's sex and to investigate the relationships of children's self-perceived competence and behavior problems with children's coping strategies, perceived social support, parenting style, and parental stress among divorced families. The subjects of this study were 126 children from 4 to 6 grade and their parents(38 fathers, 88 mothers) who lived with their children. Children responded to 'Self-Perception Profile for Children(Harter, 1985)', 'Social Support Appraisal Scale(Dubow & Ulman, 1989)', and questionnaires on 'children's coping strategies and perceived parenting style(Han & Park, 2007)'. Parents responded to 'Family Inventory of Life Events and Changes(McCubbin, 1981)' and 'Korean version of Achenbach's Child Behavior Check List(Oh, Lee, Hong, & Ha, 1997)'. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, two-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlations, and multiple regressions. The results of this study were as follows:First, there were neither children's sex difference nor residential parent's sex difference in children's self-perceived competence and behavior problems.Second, children's coping strategies, and parental stress influenced children's self-perceived competence. The more the children used positive coping strategies, the less they used negative coping strategies, the less the parents experienced caregiving stress, the children perceived themselves to be more competent. Children's coping strategies, perceived social support from peer, teacher, and family accounted for children's self-perceived adequacy. The more the children used positive coping strategies, the less they used negative coping strategies, the more the children perceived to receive peer, teacher, and family support, the children perceived themselves to be more adequate.Third, parental stress and perceived peer support influenced children's behavior problems. Parents experiencing high levels of caregiving stress had children who showed higher levels of behavior problems and the less children perceived to receive peer support, they showed more behavior problems. Parental stress accounted for children's internalized behavior problems. Parents experiencing high levels of caregiving stress had children who showed higher levels of internalized behavior problems. For children, high levels of parent's caregiving stress accounted for their externalized behavior problems.
