The reason they selected him is he unified the Mongolia tribes and conquered an area from East Asia to Europe and he got rid of obstacles which blocked civilization exchange between those areas. He also encouraged trade and he gave tremendous influence to European society with an awareness and he brought current western capitalism.Genghis Khan achieved most historic success with overcoming all the difficulties as person as well as tribesmen.His tactics like maneuvering, surprise attack, concentration, eliminating the Center of Gravity (COG). Additionally, attached importance to the intelligence and intelligence collection which has connection with present Air Force Operational concept like the Effects Based Operation(EBO) and Network Centric Warfare(NCW). Furthermore, we can say he was a visionary Airman of the medieval times.His leadership style has been discussed from the management points of view in a private enterprise rather than the military. With this reason, I have researched his leadership and have studied a scheme which can apply to today's Air Force and compare to the current Air Force leadership.Genghis Khan's leadership is as follows:First, he had open and positive attitude to listen to others.Second, he was fair to his subordinates and leading by actionsThird, he embraced his enemy as long as they vow to be loyal and trustworthy Fourth, he shared his vision, resulting in stimulating personal desire.Fifth, he reformed to maximize an efficiency of an organization through the member's motivation. Sixth, His strong will to overcome difficulties. He always looked for an positive opportunity even under bad conditions such as; starvation, severe cold, and fear, etc. Seventh, he intended for practical education and took a serious view of technology. He carried out with awareness of importance of education to his son and his subordinates.Eighth, he was interested in decision making. He brought agreement through the discussions and with important items used arbitrary decisions. Ninth, he provided an opportunity to anyone with open mind. They could be slaves or prisoner of war, as long as they had talent and capability, he still gave them an opportunity.Tenth, he was focused on a delegation of an authorization. An organization is getting larger and bigger, he delegated authority and confided in his subordinates leadership.Eleventh, he established moral obligation and justification. They have focused on developing theory than educating future air force leaders till now. However, they are developing plans to connect practical to current situation for the future. This writer will present ideas which can apply Genghis Khan's leadership to air force leadership for the future growths.First, leader must take decisive steps for air force reform. We should reform our organization which is compatible by simplifying each specialties. For instance, we should eliminate specialty code which shows different types of aircraft flown by officers and provide an opportunity to transfer to other aircraft. Thus eliminating relative merits between specialties. And provide operation support and enhance compatibility based on cooperating with between similar specialties. Also 10% of promotionrate has to given to key personnel regardless of the specialties.Second, Sharing of a vision and a result. We should establish a concrete vision, then share not only a tangible outcome like the promotion but also intangible outcome like improving working environment and morale. For example, we can satisfy the management by providing a practical education before retirement. Third, Cultivating a leader who has ability through a practical education and a delegation authorization. Education in the Air Force should be studied and developed to be closely connected with practical affairs. Additionally, we should make the best use of an e-learning system and "M-kiss"program in The Military Mutual Aid Association by means of accessing Defense Internet Protocol(an Intranet). Also reinforce connected education between the Squadron Officers Course (SOC) and the Command and Staff Course (CSC) and carry out joint training and discussion as needed and gain personal experience through visiting a base. Regulation about Runway Control should relieve and needs to magnify flexibility by means of delegating squadron commander's authorityFourth, Revitalizing communication between members through the improvement an organizational atmosphere and culture. Make diagnosis of rigid organizational culture and should soften its cultural environment. Leader's role is very important to create an environment to communicate between leaders and subordinates. When a leader has authority and a narrow-minded view, he has to consider lots of factors. Fifth, Giving an example of moderation to others, having strong will and inclusion. When a leader leads from the front and act rather than a word to surmount countless difficulties with his subordinates, they will pledge their loyalty to their organization.
