The research results were as follows: First of all, for blog-users, there was high rate of blog-owning and blog-using in Korea and China. Among the various types of blog, the ‘friend-blog’ was the most frequently used by blog-users in both countries. In Korea, the most popular and welcomed websites offering blog service were Cyworld mini-homepage, Naverblog and Daumblod. In contrast, China was characterized by a scattered website service for blog. In terms of blog-using purposes, Korean college blog-users more focused on dialog, communication and maintaining intimate relationship with friends. On the contrary, China’s case was more random notes initiated. In terms of blog’s future and influence, college students in two countries universally thought blog ‘influential at present and the tendency would be intensified in the future’. Secondly, based on the outcomes of our research questions in the study, the first two assumptions that ‘Chinese college blog-users inclined to be more personal initiated’ and ‘Korean college blog-users were more public initiated’ were denied. While the assumptions that ‘Korean users intended to get more information’ and ‘Chinese users had higher rate of participation’ were confirmed. Thirdly, concerning the developmental progress, blog got gradually popularized in Korea with the appearance of various blog service websites. While in China, blog was developed centering on the service websites built by several overseas blog disseminators represented by Fang Xing-dong. Fourthly, regarding the patterns, blog in Korea was characterized by communication and multi-media. In comparison, blog in China was on a text basis. Finally, from the policy perspective, nowadays more and more information issued on blog was leveled as taboo or marginalized news, therefore related sectors in China exerted relatively strict supervision and management on blog contents and blog websites. After the study, it was found that blog-related research activities were more actively and highly developed in Korea compared to China. In addition, there existed differences between Korean and Chinese college blog-users in terms of motivations and modes. The significance of the thesis lies on by studying blog in Korea and China as a starting point study, comparative study of internet development in two countries may be the future research trend, therefore continuous efforts are expected and called for.
