The purpose of this study was to estimate the future water quality of a city's water cycle system by WASP with the varieties of many environmental conditions. The object of this study was a manmade lake constructed in Un-Jung district, Paju, and the values of WASP model variables for predicting the future water quality of the lake were calibrated by using the water quality data of the existing Ju-am lake, which was selected because the designed water quality of the manmade lake was similar to that of Ju-am lake. When hydraulics residence times (HRT) of the manmade lake were 3 days and 45 days, yearly ranges of chlorophyll a (chl-a) concentration were 2.66~3.04㎍/L and 2.46~9.76㎍/L, respectively. This indicates that the HRT of lake has a huge impact on the concentration of chl-a. When HRT of 3 days was applied, the chl-a and T-P concentrations of the manmade lake in fine weather were 2.66~3.04㎍/ℓ and 0.029~0.031㎎/ℓ, respectively, which satisfied the regular degree of manmade lake's target water quality. On the other hand, the period required for recovering the water quality of manmade lake to ordinary water quality after rainy days was a maximum of 10 days, and a following mathematical formula from this result could be deduced for calculating the recovery days of water quality after rainy days. Recovery days of manmade lake's water quality = 5×(2-exp[-A/B]) where A = amount of lake's inflow in rainfall, and B = amount of storage in lake.
