The purpose of this study was to explore the issues such as visual and spatial zone distribution, scenery change, and interrelationship focusing on looking into what the difference was between the immigration process of immigrated residents of Wongok dong, Ansan city and cultural scenery, and what the political and economic background was, and based on these issues furthering into zone distribution process according to immigrants residence, and how the interrelationship between them and native people was established. Methods employed in this study were both indoor and outdoor researches to investigate visual and spatial probability. For indoor research, the literature, papers, maps, numerical maps, aerial photographs, satellite photographs, statistical data, local newspapers and folklore related literature, information from government offices and social associations, and visual data were used, and for outdoor research, data were collected by taking photos, interviews, on spot research for two years between year 2006 and 2007. The results shows that there is a close relationship between the political and economic situations and the international immigration and settlement of Wongok dong residents. There is a severe disproportion in wealth from country to country in the international society, stimulating immigrants’ movement accelerated by capital flow. That is, there is an interaction between Korea’s absorption reason of people and the deflation reason of egesting countries, which ignites an immigrant market leading to a political and economic background in a way of mutual existence. The key immigrants are Joseonjok people among Wongok dong immigrated residents who maintain immigrants’ space, and they played a role of mediator between the natives and the immigrants. They establish an immigrants’ essential culture in Wongok dong comprising more than 2/3 of wongok dong immigrated residents, which was a type of immigration specifically existing in Korean society. They are not a fully adapted to Korean society but, however, they have the same historical consciousness as Korean natives have, thus they have a duplicated structure with the same language, behavior, thoughts, and food life, etc. homogeneous to Korean culture. Other immigration into Wongok dong has a close relationship with the domestic political and economic situations, and zone establishments of other immigrants reflex religious, economic, and nationality differences. Other immigrants arrive in a full scale with the implementation of industrial internship program, and mostly from those countries that entered into a pact of MOU with Korea government after the practice of employment license system. Wongok dong commenced a base for immigrants, and a large scale of immigration influx in Wongok dong offered an opportunity to have a gathering of immigrants in Wongok dong every weekend, which enables Wongok dong to activate an immigrated culture more thoroughly. Also, culturally, other immigrants occupy a less vivid economic activity than that of Korean natives and Joseonjok with less definite interrelationship with Koreans where they live as factory workers and as consumers of Korean natives’ shops. Korean natives in Wongok dong show that they reserve exclusivemindedness and broad mindedness at the same time toward immigrants. Korean natives in Wongok dong consist of a major population of Wongok dong from the start, but they moved to other regions while passing over their zones to the immigrants with the economic and residentialenvironmental reasons. Those native Koreans still residing there show that they find a way of co existence with the immigrants and accept them as part of their residents. Every economic trend in Wongok dong experiences changes according to living and consumption patterns of immigrants, and with this trend there are few native Koreans of positive consumers and the decrease in the number of young and middle aged functions as obstructing factors in development of Wongok dong. There are immigrated workers with various nationalities residing in Wongok dong, and it creates a multicultural community with native Koreans, and is the very first immigrants’ residing space. There are a variety of cultural factors from immigrants in a mixed mode, and while every single country comes to make its own cultural zone by facilitating their own cultural originality and they keep a cooperative relationship complementary to one another to make a comprehensive multicultural space, but there remain much in order to complete a Wongok dong multicultural community. Accordingly, the current status related with Wongok dong immigrants may play a significant role in establishing a residence for immigrants in other regions as previous materials for the study on residence establishment process of immigrated workers who live in other cities, and as for Korean society on the way to the multicultural society, Wongok dong can be an important case zone for Koreans to understand and set up policies for the immigrants.
