Natural dyeing has been used on the fabrics for a long time ago. Natural dyestuff has natural colors which cannot to be obtained by synthetic dyestuff. However, it is difficult to take the manufacturing processes and colors-producibility compare to synthetic dyes. Today the interest of Natural dyeing has been increased, because people are concerned about the protection of environment. They are anxious to have healthy life so they return to nature more and more. From that significance, the natural dyeing is harmlessness to human body. Also it is easy to get from the nature and environmentally friendly. So this study would search for obtaining Miscanthus sinensis as a new natural dyestuff and discovering possibilities of dyeing on the synthetic fiber with Miscanthus sinensis. For the purpose of this study is to investigate the dyeing-properties on silk and nylon fabrics dyed with Miscanthus sinensis at variable dyeing conditions(temperature, time, concentration, repeat-number). Four different compounds of Al, Cu, Fe and Sn were used as mordants. And color-fastness was estimated by washing, dry cleaning, light and rubbing-fastness as grade. The results obtained were as follows; 1. The maximum UV-visible spectrum possessed absorption band of Miscanthus sinensis extract appeared at 274nm and 334nm. The wavelength of absorption of the extract corresponds to flavonoid peak. 2. According to the dyeing temperature, K/S values of each fabrics were increased gently when the temperature was going up and the K/S value marked high position at the point of high temperature. Also K/S values of the dyeing time was getting higher position as time went by. But after certain period of time, K/S values were no more changes. Being in high concentration, K/S values of each fabrics were improved. 3. In repeat-number, silk and nylon fabrics were steadily increased as the number of times. 4. In the effect of silk fabrics dyed with various mordants, the most improved K/S value was by dyeing with Cu mordant and in case of nylon fabrics was by dyeing with Sn mordant. K/S values of dyeing fabrics were increased by post-mordanting except Sn mordant. Pre-mordanting had influence on Sn mordant. 5. Generally in the color changes of silk and nylon fabrics, the color has been showed up Yellow-YellowRed series, however, it was appeared somewhat of different color by the mordants of other kinds. 6. In the results of color-fastness, the washing-fastness, dry cleaning-fastness, rubbing-fastness got more than 4-5 grades on the dyeing of both(silk and nylon) fabrics. Fastness of light appeared 2-3 grades. These fastness improvement were generally effective for mordant treatments.
