We have developed a simple method to prepare organic-inorganic silica nano-particles of different size and narrow size distribution in high yield. In generally, almost of hybrid silica materials were elaborated by complicated method where organic materials were coated on the surface of silica substrate via chemical reaction. But we studied successful one-step preparation method of hybrid silica particles with organosilane chemical in aqueous solution. Unlike stöber method that often used to prepare silica particles employed alcohol and water mixture, the one-step preparation method does not need any alcohol. Moreover, our system can be applied to prepare colloidal hybrid particles without using substrate material. This method has three advantages; (i) first of all it gives the opportunity to prepare hybrid particles with high mono-dispersity through the self-hydrolysis of various organosilane monomers in aqueous solution, (ii) this efficient method can be applied to load lots of organic functional groups on the surface of silica particles through a one-step preparation method using only organosilane, and (iii) the method can be used to control the particle size of the product by changing the experimental conditions such as the concentration of the catalyst or the reaction temperature. Methyltrimethoxysilane (MTMS) and Ethyltrimethoxysilane (ETMS) are used to recognize a relationship between carbon chain length and size of silica particles. And Vinytrimethoxysilane (VTMS) and 3-Mercaptopropyltrimethoxysilane (MPTMS) are employed to make a useful substance that has other metal onto. And A facile synthesis method using one-step sol-gel reaction in aqueous solution is designed in this study. The preparation process of highly mono-dispersed hybrid silica spheres using organo-silane molecules is applied to our synthetic method, which contains the self-hydrolysis step of PEGME-IPTES monomers at high temperature of 80℃ for 2 days. Compared to the general sol-gel method and the sequential emulsion technique, our method is very facile and simple because (1) it just needs polymer-silane monomers without other silica sources and organic agents and (2) the reaction occurs in aqueous solutions. The size of obtained particles is changed from 0.42 ㎛ to 1.79 ㎛, depending on the concentration of PEGME-IPTES precursor in the presence of NH4OH. Also, hybrid particles contain maximum 60wt.% PEG polymer and have the surface area of 7.5 m²g^(-1). Thermal stability of PEG polymer in hybrid particles largely increases compared with free PEG polymer and PEG polymer in PEG-grafted silica particles. Detailed characterization of the hybrid particles by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) was performed to elucidate the morphologies and properties of hybrid silica particles.
