If we drop the liquid on the lotus leaf, due to their micro structural surface detail, liquid retains its original shape on these surfaces in a phenomenon known as the “Lotus effect.” This phenomena represents the superhydrophobic surface and static contact angle of this surface is lager than 150 °. On the surperhydrophobic surface, surface tension is smaller than normal surface and that could be fabricated by increasing surface roughness or reducing surface energy. In this study, to fabricate superhydrophobic surface, which is applicable to MEMS device, the polymer materials were treated with an argon and oxygen ion beam. To characteries the fabricated surface, contact angle is measured and surface morphology is examined by atomic force microscopy(AFM) and scanning electron microscopy(SEM). The superhydrophobic surfaces were applied to several micro fluidics devices.
