School forests of many types of forests are defined as the forests made in school area for education and improvement of environment and give urban students chances to meet nature and are served as the place of education about environment. Therefore, we carried out a practical study to present a desirable direction of architecture of forests in primary school. Concretely, we grasped the actual conditions of the school forests that are gardening or have gardened by the support of the life forest and invested students' consciousness of environment and requests for the school forests. Then we established a desirable direction of architecture of school forests. The summary of the study results is follwing. Targets of study are the primary schools selected by random method; urban schools are five, including Songrim primary school and rural schools are four, including Nasan primary school. Looking into the present state of the school forests, the areas of existing forests in Jaecheolseo primary school and Iseo primary school before school forests were made are widest ; each 5,280m² and 3,772m². After school forests were made, the areas of Ahwa primary school increased 2,300m² and the area of the most schools increased over 500m². In the proportion of green track of land, Iseo and Jaechheolseo primary school are best ; each 22.9% and 22.63%. In the amount of greens per 1 student, Joma primary school is best ; 52.63m²/person. Looking into the kinds and the features of trees in nine primary schools, the number of the kind of trees is total 109, and the deciduous broadleaf trees and the flowering plants are 29 species, that is 26.6% in total species. In the color respect of the flowers, white is most ; 27 species, and the proportion of reds and purples are over 20%. Next, in the result of the research that we analysed students' consciousness of environment, the ratio of students that know school forests is 58.9% and the ratio of participation is 20.7%, that is very low. Classifying the ratios of school participation, the ratio of urban schools like Songrim and Jaecheolseo primary school is low ; under 10%, and the ratio of schools operated by a invitated principal system like Joma primary school is high ; over 70%. In the analysis of satisfaction degree with school forests, 'Having many trees' is highest ; 3.38point among fifteen provision and 'Having shade' and 'Being able to see the birds and insects' is high ; each 3.30point and 3.26point. But 'Removing noise around' is least ; 2.44point. This indicates that school forests are not effective in removing noise. The average of satisfaction degree is 3.17point that is higher than middle level, 3point and the need of school forests is fairy high ; 4.01point. In the last, the objective of making school forests is presented by analysis of the research. At the preference analysis of needed trees in school forests, the preference to deciduous broadleaf trees and evergreen broadleaf trees is high. And 'Develop of teaching materials and programs' and 'Need wider space of school forests' occupied a high ratio. Considering the result of the above, the existing method of making school forests is different from what students want. Therefore, we'll have to make new school forests that students want and can participate in. And we'll pursuit not the result but the process in making the school forests. Furthermore, we'll have to make students in a dim city feel the beauty of the nature and obtain chances for students to learn the true education from nature.
