즉, 즉 τ∝ E0.6, E1.2, E1.6 및 E1.8의 값을 갖는다.

Electrorheological(ER) fluids consist of highly polarizable particles in an insulating fluid and the ER behavior is characterized by a rapid and reversible increase in apparent viscosity due to the formation of particle chains upon application of an electric field. The disperse phase plays an important role in the ER phenomenon. ER fluids are suspensions which have the ability to control with electric field mechanical devices such as shock absorbers, dampers, clutchs, actuator and engine mounts. By the reasons, there are lots of potential markets for mechanical control systems. As the organic disperse phases, cellulose, corn starch, polyaniline and polyurethane have been used for the formulation of ER fluids. Because they have the polar groups such as hydroxy(-OH), amino(-NH2) and cyan-amino(-CN-NH) respectively, suspensions of the particles provide the ER effect upon application of the field. The chemical structure of the organic materials is therefore important in the ER effect. Among them, polyaniline and polyurethane have been widely used as commercial products for machinery control systems. However they have certain problems such as precipitation by dispersion unstability and adhesion to the cell in spite of their high ER performance. The current study attempted to solve the basic problems of conventional ER fluids and introduced new ER materials, chitosan and glucosamine derivatives based on the natural polymers as the organic disperse phase.
This study was conducted to deduce the ER performance of glucosamine and glucosamine hydrochloride as the glucosamine derivatives and chitosan, chitosan adipate and hexamethylene diamine chitosan adipate as the chitosan derivatives, and to investigate their potential as the ER fluids. The following is a summary of the results:
(1) A glucosamine hydrochloride suspension exhibited a yield stress under an electric field, whereas the glucosamine suspension behaved as a newtonian fluid.
(2) The chitosan, chitosan adipate and hexamethylene diamine chitosan adipate suspensions showed an ER response upon the application of an electric field and the suspensions exhibited Bingham flow behavior.
(3) The shear stress for the suspensions composed of glucosamine hydrochloride, chitosan, chitosan adipate and hexamethylene diamine chitosan adipate showed the electric field power of 0.6, 1.2, 1.6 and 1.8, that is, τ∝ E0.6, E1.2, E1.6 and E1.8.
(4) The experimental results correlated with the conduction model and the suspensions found to behave as the anhydrous ER fluids.
