본 논문에서는 F. Poulenc이 1956년에 완성한 'Sonata for Flute and Piano'곡을 연구 분석을 한 것이다. 셋째 3악장으로 구성된 대표적인 작품 F. Poulenc의 'Sonata for Flute and Piano'는 3부분형식(A-B-A')으로 빠르기 등을 대비 시켜서 각 악장별로 특성을 가지게 되었다.

About 1920s after World War I, France organized Les Six as a reaction against impressionism and anti-romanticism. Francis Poulenc was highly judged to inherit French music led by Maurice Ravel(1875-1937) and Claude Debussy(1862-1918) who were leading composers of France in use of refined rhythm, magnificent harmony, and melody of chromatic scale in diatonic chord based on classicism. As the works by F. Poulenc(1899-1963) who is a pianist and composer of the 20th century are characterized both by classicism in style and organization, and modernism in chord and rhythm, he belongs to neoclassicism in history of music. This study is to analyse the 'Sonata for Flute and Piano' completed in 1965 by F. Poulenc. First, we examine his life and historical trends of his works. Second, he mainly composed vocal music as a composer of early 20th century and we examine the Les Six he joined. Third, his Sonata for Flute and Piano which is composed of three movements (A-B-A') has distinctive features in each part through contrast of tempos. Allegro Part 1 omits the development, contracts the representation and repeats a theme. Andante Part 2(Part Type 2), a rondo sonata, adds a feature of variation and Allegro Part 3 follows a principle of change and contrast in which the theme of Part 1 changes and repeats. This study examines features of F. Poulenc's unique composition which shows refinement and liberal emotion of French music.
