Concrete is widely used on construction structures due to long lifespan, economic value, and constructivity. However, concrete that is poor in quality due to material or environmental factors is increasingly sold and used at construction sites these days. Thus, it has become important to secure stability and maintainability of concrete structures. As concrete's compressive strength can be used to determine the stability of structural capacity, we are need of techniques to evaluate the compressive strength of concrete to ensure quality. Methods of measuring the compressive strength of concrete include destructive test, where concrete core is retrieved to measure the strength of a test sample, as well as penetration test, pull-out test, and Schmidt hammer test using rebound hardness, and non-destructive test using ultrasonic waves. However, gathering the core incurs problems with loss of parts, damage of internal rebars, and repair after testing. Also, test samples are not cured in the same condition as the actual structure and causes errors in results. Also, non-destructive test does not return reliable results as the range of errors in data is unclear. The existing techniques used to estimate and manage the compressive strength of concrete do not include the environmental factors that influence the development of compressive strength and the compressive strength itself. Thus, it is necessary to develop a reasonable yet simple way to measure the compressive strength of concrete structures at construction sites by considering concrete's mechanical properties and curing environment. This study was conducted to propose an acrylic form and a junction isolation mold with crack-inducing boards that uses non-destructive methods to create and collect concrete test samples that are cured in the same condition as the actual concrete structures. Then, the influence of materials and restrictions of junction isolation molds (size of molds, number of air holes, height of molds for members, and time to gather test samples) on the evaluation of compressive strength was analyzed to select the optimum junction isolation molds. Also, the influence of concrete curing conditions on the compressive strength of junction isolation test sample was analyzed in comparison to the core strength of mock members. Then, statistical techniques were used to estimate the coefficient of regression and compressive strength through regression analysis to ensure the reliability of evaluation of compressive strength using a junction isolation test sample. Lastly, a mock-up test of column, wall, and mass members was performed to evaluate the hydration temperature distribution and compressive strengths of structural members and junction isolation test sample and junction isolation molds were used in high-strength and super high-strength concrete to evaluate the reliability of compressive strength evaluation on the test sample. The following were the findings of this study: 1. Junction Isolation Molds and Concrete Test Sample for Measuring Compressive Strength Junction isolation molds were made with transparent acrylics (t:10mm) so that I was able to see the concrete inside. Then, I chose a 100×100×200mm junction isolation mold with 12 air holes for air circulation. There was no influence of the location of mold on the compressive strength and it was reasonable for the mold to be removed from the structure at least seven days after pouring so that it can develop the initial strength. Also, the difference between junction isolation test sample and core strength was about 2MPa- 3MPa, which was similar to the compressive strength of concrete structures. 2. Influence of Curing Conditions on the Reliability of Compressive Strength of Junction Isolation Test Sample The deviation between the strengths of the junction isolation test sample and the core was less than ±1.5% regardless of curing condition and showed normal distribution. The junction isolation test sample showed a greater significance on the regression line compared to other test samples, and thus was more reliable. As the residual- appropriate value was close to 0, the regression model was appropriate. The coefficient of determination was 0.97 in standard condition, 0.96 in warm condition, and 0.97 in cool condition and proved the feasibility of this method for the evaluation of compressive strength. 3. Compressive Strength of Junction Isolation Test Sample on the Actual Member The junction isolation test sample is not influenced by the outer temperature and shows a hydration temperature pattern that is very similar to that of a member. Also, it reduces the temperature difference between other test samples and the actual members by approx. 15-25℃, showing that it has a similar property to develop strength with the actual members under similar curing conditions. Also, the consolidation of concrete members was applied to the junction isolation test sample, indicating that the compressive strength of the test sample could be similar to the core strength of the actual members according to the location of installation. The coefficient of determination of core strength and compressive strength of junction isolation test sample (R2) showed a high correlation above 0.98. 4. Compressive Strength Properties of Junction Isolation Test sample in High-strength and Super High-strength Areas The coefficient of determination (R2) of junction isolation test sample for the estimation of compressive strength of high-strength concrete was above 0.98 up to 80MPa and seems to be applicable up to super high-strength areas. Over the standard strength above 120MPa, however, bolts or crack inducing boards were distorted when the junction isolation test sample was removed, due to the high surface strength of members after initial aging (after 14 days). Thus, materials should be improved to attach and detach junction isolation molds more easily. I was able to evaluate the compressive strengths of junction isolation molds and test sample to manage the compressive strength of concrete structures and acquired data on field application. In result, I found that it is feasible to use a junction isolation test sample to measure the compressive strength of concrete structures. However, I would require more data to use this method in the field to manage the strength of concrete members. In the future, it would be necessary to consider more field-related factors and separate the types of concrete and members to apply this method.
