(Abstract)
This study performed the model experiment to compare the bearing
capacity when using corrugated steel pipe and normal steel pipe for the
field placing piles, and suggest the calculation formular for the bearing
capacity increasing rate with bearing capacity comparisons between
corrugated steel pipe and normal pipe depending on relative density. Also,
to verify the calculation formular, this study executed the analysis of
bearing capacity by using MIDAS/GTS program.
The summary of research results is following.
This study conducted the test of particle size distribution, unit weight,
and the angle of internal friction for standard sand to calculate basic
physical property values necessary for numerical analysis. According to
the result of the test, the particle size was homogeneous. Moreover,
when relative density was 40%, the angle of internal friction was 37.7°,
and when it was 80%, the angle was 43.1°.
The result of the model test showed that as relative density increased
from 40% to 80%, ultimate bearing capacity also increased 43.69%
averagely. In regard of skin friction, when relative friction was 40%, the
skin friction of the corrugated steel pipe (3RS) increased 12.89% than
that of the typical steel pipe. When relative density was 80%, the skin
friction of the corrugated steel pipe (3RS) increased 12.95% than that of
the typical steel pipe. In conclusion, change in skin friction according to
the difference of relative density was not significant.
According to the result of numerical analysis, when relative density
was 40%, the skin friction of the corrugated steel pipe (3RS) increased
9.1% than that of the typical steel pipe. When relative density was 80%,
the skin friction of the corrugated steel pipe (3RS) increased 10.1% than
that of the typical steel pipe. This result was the same as the increment
pattern of the model test. Therefore, it can be inferred that as the length
and pitch of a wave increase, skin friction increases as well due to the
increment of the area of the pile skin.
