The purpose of this thesis is to understand how literatherapy program affects runaway teenagers' self-esteem and anxiety. They have low self-esteem and psychological anxiety that derive from the changes in the environment. I expected they could have positive self image to express negative feelings about themselves and eliminate them through literature as media. I established two hypotheses, which include the following: First, literatherapy program will improve the self-esteem of teenagers who dwell at shelter. Second, literatherapy program will decrease their anxiety. I chose young girls as subjects who took a shelter in some cities and whose age was between 15 to 18. They were divided into two groups, an experimental group and a control group. They were assigned randomly and each one had 6 members. Literatherapy program was held on Mondays and Thursdays from March ninth to April ninth. There were two sessions in a week, and the total number of session was ten. Each session took 90 minutes. Searching the effect of literatherapy on runaway teenagers' self-esteem and anxiety, I used Rosenberg's SES(Self-Esteem Scale; 1986). And also I used "state anxiety" in Spielberger's STAI-Y(State-Trait Anxiety Inventory Y Form; 1983). Two of scales were used as ex ante-ex post analysis. Moreover, I reported activities in every session and analyzed them. This program was composed of four phases in literatherapy program. The first was an initial phase to expose themselves. The second was an action phase to express their repressed feeling and accept it. The third was an integration phase to accept and understand their ambivalence, then forgive themselves. The fourth was an reorientation phase to objectify themselves through self-acceptance, and as a result, they could newly set the direction for their own life. I used SPSS version 15.0 for window to analyse collected resources, and independent samples T-test was undertaken. Based on it, the first hypothesis, literatherapy program will improve the self-esteem of teenagers who dwell at shelter, as supported by theory. The second hypothesis, literatherapy program will decrease their anxiety, was supported by theory, too. In conclusion, runaway teenagers's self-esteem was improved through literatherapy program to look deep into themselves, accept their own feeling, and have positive thought. Accepting their circumstances and having positive expectations about the future, they could get psychological stability and their anxiety eventually decreased.
