The objective of this study is to analyze the infection patterns of porcine chronic wasting disease(PRRS, PCVD), which causes economical losses in Korean pig farms, and to prepare countermeasures for minimizing economic loss by outbreaks of the diseases on a farm level. Pig sera were collected from nationwide farms and examined for antibodies to PRRSV and PCV-2. The results showed that 7,012 out of 10,563 swine samples(66.4%) and 8,292 out of 9,822 samples(84.4%) were positive, respectively. It revealed that majority of swine farms have sero-positive pigs to PRRSV and PCV-2. In sow herds, totally 72.1%(n=2,318) of sows were sero-positive to PRRSV, and by the parity, 74.6%(673/902) of gilts, 70.3%(826/ 1,175) of 1-2 parity sows, and 72.0%(819/1,137) of more than 3rd parity sows were sero-positive to PRRSV. Based on the results, gilts can be considered as an important role of circulation of PRRSV in pig farms. In piglet herds, seroprevalence of 20, 40, 70, 100 and 130 days-old pigs were 50.5%(1,334/2,643), 44.4%(539/1,214), 71.4%(870/1,218), 86.1%(1,007/1,169) and 85.4%(944/1,105), respectively. Increasing of the PRRSV-antibody ratio in 70 days-old pig group means that nursery pigs around 40-50 days-old pig group play a important role of transmission of PRRSV in a piglet herds. In sow herds, totally 95.3%(n=2,833) of sows were sero-positive to PCV-2, and by the parity, 96.2%(820/852) of gilts, 95.7%(1,027/1,073) of 1-2 parity sows, and 94.1%(986/1,048) of more than 3rd parity sows were sero-positive to PCV-2. Based on the results, PCV-2 infection spread widely over sow herds. In piglet herds, seroprevalence of 20, 40, 70, 100 and 130 days-old pigs were 86.0%(2,103/2,445), 64.8%(730/1,127), 67.0%(756/1,128), 82.6%(889/1,076) and 91.4%(981/1,073). Based on antibody seroprevalence levels in both sow and piglet groups, patterns of PRRSV infection in each farms were classified into 5 categories; category 1(stable sow groups and non-infected piglet groups), category 2(unstable sow groups and non-infected piglet groups), category 3(stable sow groups and infected piglet groups), category 4(stable sow groups and circulation infected piglet groups), category 5(unstable sow groups and infected piglet groups). And the data suggest that category 1 4.5%(n=11), category 2 21.2%(n=52), category 3 27.8% (n=68), category 4 4.1%(n=10), category 5 42.4%(n=104). Patterns of PCV-2 infection in each farms were classified into 4 categories; category 1(stable sow groups and non-infected piglet groups), category 2(unstable sow groups and non-infected piglet groups), category 3(stable sow groups and infected piglet groups), category 4(unstable sow groups and infected piglet groups). And the data suggest that category 1 3.1%(n=7), category 2 17.3%(n=39), category 3 44.7%(n=101), category 4 35.0%(n=79). These results indicated that most farms infected by PRRSV and PCV-2, and infection patterns of the viruses could be classified 5 and 4 categories in each farms. In this study, it suggested that suitable control strategy for pig farms with different infection patterns of PRRSV and PCV-2. These control strategy based on infection patterns is expected to help pig farmers with wasting diseases problems.
