These studies were performed to provide the scientific and objective information on the behavioral patterns and physiological response of detector dogs by measuring the heart rate using polar vantage NV system in the domestic public institution. The first study was conducted in order to examine the breeding condition of working dogs in the domestic public institution. The breed of dog was high in order of: shepherd (n=411) 〉labrador retriever (n=65) 〉malinois (n=60). The activity period of working dogs was more than 7 years, but it was different depending on the institution budget. The standard of feed supply was activity (50%), physical condition (30%), and holding amount of feed (20%). The common diseases of working dogs were hip disease, respiratory disease, and other diseases including dermatitis, middle-ear infection and dirohla-immitis. In the use of domestic working dogs, detection dominate the sector. The training period was almost 3~5 months, and the starting time of training was 1~2 years (71%) and 0.5~1 year (29%). The working period of handler was mostly more than 5 years, but this still fell short of the number of handler. The second study was conducted in order to examine the appearance frequency and time spent of behavioral patterns during video shooting. In the appearance frequency and time spent on behaviour patterns in 3-month aged male and female dogs, decorating, change of position, digging the soil, oral action, shaking tail in the female were higher than the male. Lying on one's side head down in 24-month aged dogs was higher than 12-month aged dogs, but lying on one's side head up, walking and standing to wall in 12-month aged dogs was higher than 24-month aged dogs. In the appearance frequency and time spent on behaviour patterns in 24-month aged male dogs, decorating, change of position and mobile condition, turning, oral action, barking have an individual differences. On the other hand, in the appearance frequency and time spent on behaviour patterns in 24-month aged female dog according to the species, decorating, change of position and mobile condition, turning, digging the soil, barking in Cocker Spaniel was higher than Retriever. The third study was conducted in order to examine the heart rate using polar vantage NV system of the detector dogs in Korea Customs Service. As the detector dogs with yellow hair, the individual heart rate in the female was slightly higher than the male. Moreover, the detector dogs with yellow hair has regular individual heart rate compared to those with black hair. Especially, male has a tendency to change the heart rate regularly compared to the female in the detector dogs with yellow hair. In the fourth study, new detector dog has a tendency to change the heart rate regularly with the passing of training period during 16 weeks. On the other hand, it is considered that it takes about 3 weeks for the sociability formation between detector dogs and their handler. In the fifth study, non trained male dog (12-month aged) has a tendency to change the heart rate irregularly regardless of hair color. Finally, the objective of the sixth study was to investigate the heart rate of cloned dogs, natural reproductive dogs, and reproduced children from same parents. As the cloned dogs, the individual heart rate has almost similar pattern during training periods. Also, the change of heart rate was maintained the stable state of 90~120 per minute. The other side, the individual heart rate has greatly different pattern and the unstable state of 120~140 per minute during training periods in both natural reproductive dogs, and reproduced children from same parents. It is considered that this study is worthy of notice in the first try using an animal clone for training the excellent detector dogs. In addition, the present study provide the scientific information about the heart rate of detector dogs using polar vantage NV system and may be applied to various industries as a fundamental data.
