The processes of incineration of industrial waste and subsequent flue gas treatment were simulated using the Aspen Plus. Aspen Plus has integrated a database of around 1,700 components, a series of modules with different functions and unit operation processes.
The processes of incineration include combustion, heat exchange, and air pollution control system (acid gas and particulate matters). SNCR was used for the control of NO_(x) emissions by the introducing of reducing agents, such as ammonia, urea, and cyanuric acid into flue gases at relatively higher temperature ranges of 850~1100℃. The heat produced in the combustion process was recycled through steam, and the acidic flue gas was neutralized with the injected Ca(OH)₂ in SDA. Then the by-products of neutralization and ash were collected in the bag-filter. The input data in the modelling have been included design parameters of incinerator, chemical/physical properties of wastes, and series of reaction kinetic constants. The simulation results, such as the production of NO_(x), SO₂, HCl, particulate matters, and removal efficiency of these pollutants were matched well with the measured data from the actual incineration plants. The results of simulation can be used to predict the rate change of pollutants production along with different input ratio of waste. At the same time, the removal efficiency of flue gases also can be estimated. Furthermore, improvement and optimization measures can be evaluated according to the simulated results.
