External radiotherapy treatments using a clinical linear accelerator (CLINAC) require more precise irradiation to sites of illness in cancer patients in order to minimize unnecessary exposure to the normal tissues. But, dose measurements using conventional radiation dosimeters need complicated calibration processes and they are impossible in real time. Also, it is difficult to exactly determine the skin dose and the percentage depth dose in buildup region with high energy photon beams by using of conventional radiation dosimeters. Therefore, it is required to develop a new dosimeter for radiotherapy dosimetry, which has a small sensitive volume for high-resolution measurements and should be made of a water-equivalent material for dose measurements without complicated calibration processes. In this study, the fiber-optic dosimeter is fabricated using an organic scintillator, a plastic optical fiber, and a light measuring device for radiotherapy dosimetry. The skin doses and percentage depth doses in build-up region are measured using a fiber-optic dosimeter and absolute absorbed doses are calculated based on the results obtained with a fiber-optic dosimeter. And, they are compared with those of conventional radiation dosimeters such as an ion chamber and a radiochromic film. The measured skin and percentage depth doses in build-up region using a fiber-optic dosimeter are similar to those meassured using conventional dosimeters.
