In this study, we used permeable asphalt concrete to develop permeable double-layered pavement technique with structure of pavement cross section for durability improvement and for complement problems of permeable concrete and also developed dense grade permeable concrete with mixed quartz sand and flexible alkyd resin. For this, we analyzed stiffness and durability(water resistance, temperature resistance, freezing and thawing resistance, chemical resistance, abrasion resistance, permeability coefficient and porosity) of dense grade concrete mixed with quartz sand and flexible alkyd sand and evaluated spot applicability by calculating optimal mixing ratio. The results are as follows: 1. As the mixing ratio of flexible alkyd binder increases, the compression and flexural strengths are also increased. The value of compression strength was 10.48MPa and flexural strength was 7.16MPa when the binder mixture ratio was 12%. It seems that the flexural strength became much higher with 68% of compression strength compared to the normal concrete and that was 160% above the road design criteria of 4.5MPa 2. When it was digested in water for 20days, if the bind mixture ratio was 12%, then the water resistance was 23% and 25% if the mixture ratio was 10%. However such decrease in compression strength was slowed after 5 days of digestive aging and therefore it can be seen as the decrease in compression strength happens only during the initial stage of digestive aging. The water resistance of flexural strength was also similar to that of compression strength. 3. If we have a look at the characteristic changes in curing from -20℃ to 20℃, the compression strength increased for 38.5%~47% according to changes in resin additional rate. However, in case of curing in 60℃ and 20℃, the increase rate of compression strength is reduced to 23.4%~31.4%. Flexural strength was increased for 29.5%~43.9% if it was curing temperature in -20 and 20 and decreased for 30.7%~37.7% if the curing temperature was 60 and 20. Such results represents that the glass transition temperature of flexible alkyd resin is lowered and therefore caused the stiffness to be increased in low temperature and decreased in high temperature. 4. To evaluate chemical resistance, it was digested in 5% of sulfuric acid and 10% calcium chloride solution for 30days and its compression and flexural strength was analyzed. The result was very much similar to that of water resistance experiment and shows that water resistance is more influenced by water rather than chemical substances. If we have a look at the wear resistance, wear loss rate was decreased from 18.7% to 2.7% as the resin additional rate increases. 5. As the mixture ratio of flexible alkyd resin was increased from 6% to 12%, porosity was decreased to 30.3%~17.6% and also the permeability coefficient was decreased 10 times to 0.188~0.019cm/sec. Even the quartz sand was dense graded, the result was above 0.01cm/sec which is the criteria permeable coefficient for road pavement and design guidelines. 6. Freezing and thawing resistance was analyzed by changes in compression strength as freezing and thawing process repeated in each cycle. In 50 cycles of freezing and thawing, the compression strength was decreased for 24%~30% as resin additional rate increased. Such result isquite identical to the result of water resistance analysis and therefore can be understood as the lowered water resistance by water caused it rather than repeated freezing and thawing processes. 7. We carried out internal and durable characteristic experiments on dense grade permeable concrete with flexible alkyd and settle optimal mixture with 10% of additional rate and applied it on a bus stop and the spot applicability was evaluated. The construction area was small and carried out only with handwork. Slight problem of low roughness on pavement surface was discovered, however, no cracks on pavement surface were found. After this, we used special finisher and the problem of roughness was solved and therefore considered suitable for practicalizing. Further research on the problems of construction segment and sectional shrinkage is required.
