The aim of this thesis is to portray the spiritual conflict and moral abyss that idealized imperialism and Eurocentrism has caused. Criticizing the huge imperial power that destroys and dismantles the human beings, Heart of Darkness and The Heart of the Matter vividly describe the life and spiritual state of blacks and natives in the colony through the experiences that two writers Joseph Conrad and Graham Greene, undertook in the third world Africa. In this thesis, I have reviewed the human nature implicit in Heart of Darkness. I would argue that all human beings have still the common need of food to get out of starvation even if they have different material and moral desires. African blacks and natives as human beings, they give up their human dignity and values and even worship the whites who give them the food. On the contrary, to obtain their material profits and positions, the Europeans exploit the fundamental desire of the blacks and natives and act as agents of imperialism at the same time. In this thesis, I have tried to penetrate into the European civilization discourse, by which the blacks and natives in Africa were colonized, and then to criticise not only the immorality of European civilization discourse, but also the essence of imperialism and colonization. Secondly, I have researched on the evil of human nature through The Heart of the Matter, focusing on the alienation and isolation in the mind after the first world war and the second world war. The evil, as the opposition of the good, is also in the human mind, controling the human's spirit. In this research, I would like to see how the belief among human beings can be recovered by looking at the change in the human nature of many characters in this work. Thirdly, my attention in this research has been paid to the human's value by pursuing and groping for new human subjectivity. All human beings question and suspect endlessly the meanings and values of their identity throughout their life. Although the presence of human beings has its contradictory aspects, they continuously pursue new subjectivity, sustaining hope. It is believed that imagination, as the catalyzer which makes hope come true, could heal the nature and excite the sense of bondness among humans. In this thesis, I have tried to look for a way of finding the humanistic world through groping the new value of the human beings.
