Nowadays, Korean people have made many changes in cultural activities due to economic abundance and individualistic disposition and the like. Contemporary people's hairdo is diverse to fit their taste independently of social status and position but our ancestors in the past had their own hairdo to fit their social status, position and marital status. Jumong founded the Goguryeo Kingdom BC 37 and lasted for 700 years or so until it collapsed in AD 668 and succeeded to the productivity and culture of Gojoseon and developed them further. Goguryeo people expressed their living conditions, folkways and custom in the painting of figures, the painting of envoys and the genre painting of life and the like drawn on the mural painting of the Goguryeo Kingdom. They reflected the dynamic life and thought based on the enterprising and generous basic policy of the Goguryeo people, which indicates that they are more diverse in kind than we imagine. An investigation of the structure of the mural painting in the tumulus shows that the genre painting of life formed the mainstream over the early period between the late third century and the fifth century, and the painting of envoys and the genre painting of life formed the mainstream over the period between the mid-5th century and the 6th century and the painting of envoys emerged as the sole subject indeed. The peculiar discovery found in the mural painting in a tumulum is that the ears and shoes are invisible in the character. The mural paintings in the tumulus of the Goguryeo Kingdom made a good expression of the energetic and brave spirit of Goguryeo people and developed the art of a peculiar cultural world using indian ink and colors from a perspective of art. They took a leading place of art in the three ancient kingdoms in terms of style and form. They expressed the phases of the times, and the hairdo of Goguryeo Kingdom was primarily much determined by such elements as the natural environment, the cultural environment, thought, religion and economy and so forth. It is possible to discern the nation, gender, adult and minority, occupation, religion and the like through the race, custom, folkways, emotion and hairdo. The women's hairdo found in the mural painting in the tumulus of the Gouryeo Kingdom can be divided into nine forms. This study attempted to divide the form of the Goguryeo women's hairdo into formal hairdo, bun, ponytail, topknot, double topknot, triple topknot, pigtail, and the like. Analysis shows that the women's formal hairdo was popular from the three ancient kingdoms to the Goryeo Dynasty and was related to Buddhism. An attempt was made to analyze the women's hairdo found in and the literature and records of the Goguryeo and the mural paintings in the tumulus. It is expected to lay the foundation for finding the identity of cultures as the cultures and arts associated with the contemporary society and cultures, not the cultures of the traditional society to take a look at it in terms of cultural contents, and for creating the present and future cultures. This study attempted to reenact the mural painting in the tumulus of the Goguryeo Kingdom in our cultures and reproduce their women's hairdo. And it sought to reenact the hairdo analyzed based on its continuity of mordernization and propose the scheme to transform the materials into contents. This thesis was composed as follows: Chapter 1, an introductory part, raised a purpose and question of study. Chapter 2 offered an investigation of the meaning of the development of cultural contents. Chapter 3 offered an analysis of the hairdo of Goguryeo people found in the mural painting in the tumulus of the Goguryeo Kingdom. The results of analysis show that our ancestors excelled in the temperament of creative arts through the process of reenacting the hairdo. It is necessary to develop cultural contents out of our traditions so that the Korean with traditions added may become global without following the foreign civilization unconditionally. It is expected that the hairdo of the Goguryeo people seen in terms of cultural contents will create the synergistic effect of cultural industrial development to have relevance to contemporary society but also become the business commodity of the 21th century with the qualitative growth of pure arts and industry of modern and contemporary cultural resources.
