This research aims to analyze the long term ecological patterns about the migration of the White-naped Crane(Grus vipio) and Hooded Crane(G. monacha) at the Nakdong River basin, Gumi during a last decade since March 1998. And also, on the only wintering place of the White-naped Crane along Nakdong River, it has been analyzed for its landscape. 1. The stopover pattern of the White-naped Crane and Hooded Crane During last 10 years from October of 2000 to March of 2010, the 40,108 individual numbers in total of the cranes has been migrated at the Haepyeong wetland, Gumi, Nakdong River. Among them, the numbers of White-naped Crane were 3,672 individuals and that of Hooded Crane did 36,436 individuals. The most great numbers of the cranes have been arrived in 2001 with 8,096 individuals and the lest numbers of the cranes came in 2004 with 2,375 individuals. It has shown a increasing tendency with the numbers of Hooded Crane while migrating to the south for wintering in last 5 years since 2005, and also, it showed a same increasing pattern of White-naped Crane, however, when it was moving to the north for the breeding. The maximum arriving number of the White-naped Crane in a day were 171 individuals to the North (16, Feb. 2002), and 634 individuals to the South (21, Oct. 2007). In the case of Hooded Crane, it were 2,700 individuals the South (28, Oct. 2001), and 300 individuals to the North (2, Apr. 2004). 2. The landscape model of wintering place for White-naped Crane at Gumi 1)The formation of the wintering place of the White-naped Crane located at Dokdong, Gumi, Nakdong River basin has been took in about 26 years, it was confirmed by the annual ring of the willow trees in the forest with 10.2 ha in area size. 2) The area size of the wintering place was composed of the clean sandbank of 108,000㎡, and the water depth of 126cm at center and the dimensions of 8,390㎡. 3) For 7 years from 2002 to 2009, the number of White-naped Crane passing the winter was 5~23 individuals in each year, and the White-naped Crane has stayed for 38~120 days at the site. In 2010, 81 White-naped Crane passed the winter for 19~90 days. In this period, the number of individuals passing the winter has been increased, however, its staying duration has been decreased by the disturbances. 3. During the river reformation in 2010, the cranes used only two points at the Haepyeong wetland. One is at the islet in the river and other one is at the two streams conjugation area near Gancheon stream.
