The desire to pursue beauty is changing consistently since mankind’s beginnings, and there is a rising interest on appearance since the standards of living improve and the perception on beauty changes. Because lookism is rampant in the society, it is so ordinary to recognize the importance of appearance while living. Therefore, in this study, we have compared and analyzed people’s in their 20’s and 30’s perception on appearance and their conditions of aesthetic plastic surgeries. The result will be used as meaningful preliminary data for marketing the beauty industry to give an understanding of aesthetic plastic surgeries. The survey for this study, which was about perception on appearance and aesthetic plastic surgeries and level of interest on aesthetic plastic surgeries was conducted in Seoul, Gangnam, Gangbuk and Kyunggi and aimed at men and women in their 20’s and 30’s. 655 questionnaires were analyzed for 50 days from July. 13th, 2010 to Aug. 31st, 2010. SPSSWIN 12.0 program was used as an analyzing method. Chi Square test(x²) and t-test were used to understand the difference of perception on appearance between men and women, the level of interest on aesthetic plastic surgeries, the difference of perception on appearance and the level of interest on aesthetic plastic surgeries according to marital status. Also, the data analysis was accomplished with one-way ANOVA to understand difference of aesthetic consciousness, perception on appearance and the level of interest on aesthetic plastic surgeries according to the educational backgrounds. It showed the significant difference(p<0.05) by Duncan’s multiple range test. Frequency Analysis was also used to determine the satisfaction of aesthetic plastic surgery experienced people after surgeries 1. In the study of the difference of the level of interest on appearance and aesthetic plastic surgeries among people in their 20’s and 30’s, men think that beauty is innate, a beautiful look is important when personalities are formed, individual beauties are more valuable than artificial beauties, beautiful appearance can influence the relationships with people, and inner and outer beauties are closed related. The important items of judgement on appearance are that women are worried about their appearance all day long and try to take care of the way they look. Women try harder to improve their appearance then men, and they think that beautiful appearance is important in social life. When asking about ‘beauty’(including inner and outer), both men and women give more weight to outer beauty (60-80%). Women are stressed out more often than men, and ‘skin’ is the body item that both men and women mostly get stressed from. Both men and women answer that they receive ‘skin treatments’ for stress relief. When asking about getting aesthetic plastic surgeries, men prefer not to get them if possible, while women could get them if they want to. Women prefer them more than men. Both men and women are worried about the side effects as a obstacle of deciding whether they get aesthetic plastic surgeries. The primary body part that men and women hope to get operation on is ‘eyes’. 2. The result of the difference of the perception and level of interest on appearance and aesthetic plastic surgeries according to whether receiving plastic surgeries before shows that people who have not got any plastic surgery value more on individual beauty than artificial beauty. People who got aesthetic surgeries before value the overall appearance. People who have an experience of receiving aesthetic plastic surgeries give more weight to beautiful appearance in order to be successful. They feel more stressful about their appearance than people with no experience of getting plastic surgeries. Both men and women consider ‘skin’ as a body item that they get stressed out from. Both people who have an experience of plastic surgeries and who have no experience think that they can receive them when they want to. Both of them also say they firstly got interested in when they were in their 20’s. The primary body part that they hope to get operation on is ‘eyes’. 3. The result of the difference of the perception and level of interest on appearance and aesthetic plastic surgeries according to marital status shows that the unmarried, married and others(the divorced, the separated and the bereaved) have experiences of being stressed out from their looks. Both the unmarried and others(the divorced, the separated and the bereaved) consider ‘skin’ as a body item that they get stressed out from while the married gets stressed out from their weight. Both the married and the unmarried think that they can get aesthetic plastic surgeries when they want to, and they firstly got interested in them when they were in their 20’s while others(the divorced, the separated and the bereaved) say in their teens. When it comes to deciding on whether they receive the plastic surgeries, all of them (the married, the unmarried and others) are worried about the side effects. The primary body part that the married and the unmarried want to get operation on is ‘eyes’ while others(the divorced, the separated and the bereaved) say ‘managing body shapes’. 4. There is no difference of the perception and level of interest on appearance and aesthetic plastic surgeries according to educational backgrounds. Students at/grads from a 4-year university mind their appearance more than other educational backgrounds. Students at/grads from a graduate school think that beautiful appearance is important to be successful. The less their educational levels are, the more experiences of getting stressful about appearance. The method for maintaining the ideal look for people with high school diploma is controlling what they eat and doing exercise while students at/grads from a 2-year college, students at/grads from a 4-year university, and students at/grads from a graduate sch
