The purpose of this study is to propose proper ways of weight control for male collegiate sport players in Chung-Nam Province to maintain their health conditions and improve their sport performance, so that the findings of this study can be used as reference for nutritional education. This study was conducted using a formal questionnaire to survey total 219 male collegiate sport players for their ways of weight control, their nutritional knowledge level and their eating habits. According to analysis on responses to a question about possible reasons of training down before match, it was found that most of respondents (57.8%) chose to train down ‘for better sport performance (as they experienced).’ It was also found that only a few respondents (9.6%) ever took educations in weight control. According to analysis on responses to a question about the period and range of weight control for sport players of weight loss group, it was found that 31.3% of group began to train down ‘not later than 1 to 2 weeks before match’, and 42.0% of them trained down to reduce their weight not more than ‘3 to 5kg.’ According to analysis on responses to a question about how to train down, it was found that 30.0% of weight loss group practiced training down in sweat suit ‘every day'. According to analysis on responses to a question about the period and range of weight control for sport players of weight gain group, it was found that 62.5% of said group kept their weight controlled all the time. According to analysis on responses to a question about how to gain weight, it was found that most of weight gain group (80.0%) relied upon ‘dietary intake’ for gaining their weight. According to 10-point test on nutritional knowledge of our male collegiate sport players, it was found that they scored 8.41 points on average in basic nutritional knowledge but scored relatively low (6.89) points on average in sport nutritional knowledge. It was found that sport players who ever took nutritional educations showed higher level of basic nutritional knowledge and sport nutritional knowledge than those who never took nutritional educations. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a specialized program that will systematically assist sport players in managing their weight control for health condition maintenance and better sport performance. It is important to continue providing sport players with nutritional educations applicable to their daily life, not simply to deliver any nutritional knowledge to them.
