Obesity and osteoporosis are two increasing health problems in many countries. Obese individuals often present comorbidities while they appear protected against the development of osteoporosis. However, few and contradictory data are now available on skeletal modifications in obese patients. theatre, the relationship of obesity to the osteoporosis in middle-aged women were investigated in this study 49 volunteers, who aged over 40 and under 60, were participated. the participants were divided into two subgroups(pre-menopause women and post-menopause women) to determine the menstrual status. the results indicated that there was statistically significant differences occurred in %Fat, abdominal fat ratio, visceral fat area, visceral to subcutaneous fat ratio, despite no statistical differences in body mass index, height, and weight in each groups. % Fat, abdominal fat ratio, visceral fat area, and visceral to subcutaneous fat ratio ware increased significantly by menopause, and bone mineral density, bone mineral content, T-score, Z-score, and lumbar spine ware decreased significantly by menopause. correlation analysis results on bone mineral density showd that body mass index, % Fat, abdominal fat ratio, visceral fat area, and menstruation have been identified as a statistically significant. based on the results of present study, it is suggested that increasing visceral fat mass show negative effects on bone mineral density and osteoporosis.
