The purpose of this study was to explore the body region and pattern of injury which can happen to skier and snowboarder. The following conclusions deduced from the data of skiers and snowboarders 1,230 who visited first aid center located in ski in Kangwon province during every winter season from 2009 to 2010. The researcher themselves looked into the data accumulated and organized with respect to frequent types, and frequent parts of skiers and snowboarders injury. The major body region of ski related injury was lower limbs(63.9%, n=289), trunk region(21.0%, n=95), upper limbs(15.1%, n=68) in orders and the major body region of snowboarders related injury was upper limbs(40.6%, n=316), trunk region(36.0%, n=280), lower limbs(23.4%, n=182) in orders. The major types of ski related injury was sprain(43.1%, n=214), contusion(36.7%, n=166), fracture(9.1%, n=41) in orders and the major types of snowboard related injury was contusion(43.1%, n=335), sprain(23.9%, n=186), fracture (22.8%, n=177) in orders. Through the severity assessment using AIS, injury from snowboarding was observed more severly than injury from skiing was. Within limitations and findings of this study, the researchers concluded that sufficient pre-season preparation in terms of fitness and knowledge of snow board skill is the prerequisite for the snow board injury prevention.
