The nation's performance market is growing by more than 20 percent every year. The number of domestic musical performances was about 1,800 last year and privately-operated performing theaters such as Blue Square in Hannam-dong and D-cube Arts Center in Shindolim-dong were opened this year. Considering CJ Art Hall with the opening postponed to next spring, the openings of large and medium-sized theaters are rapidly increasing. Accordingly, there have popped up more than 10 grand theaters, starting with Chungmu Art Hall, since the year 2005 when only a few places such as Sejong Center for the Performing Arts, Seoul Arts Center, the National Theater of Korea and LG Art Center were the nation's representative theaters with more than 1,000 seats. Likewise, audience development, that is marketing, is becoming important with more heated competition of the recent performance market. Marketing strategy has developed into mass marketing, target marketing and relationship marketing in accordance with the changes of market and consumers, and the approaches. Relationship marketing, aiming at enhancing customer share, lays stress on one-to-one interactive communication with clients and puts customer management before product control. Such changes of marketing paradigm require the evolution of rapidly growing performance marketing strategies. The thesis aims to figure out and analyze the present condition of the CRM system of performance halls, focusing on the cases of domestic performing theaters currently using the system, and then to present the ways to improve the nation's performing theaters in the future. The research topics of the paper are as follows: first, to analyze the application and operating condition of the CRM system at theaters in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do; second, to analyze the staff's perceptions of the operation of the CRM system and the present condition of its usage; lastly, to present ways to develop and take advantage of the CRM system of performing theaters in the future. For this, the study examined the existing literatures, analyzed the precedent studies and made an empirical analysis of the current situation, using the data related to the operation of the CRM system in the nation's performing theaters. To do so, the study collected and used related books, dissertations, activity sheets and the data, provided by the government and various performance halls. For an empirical analysis, the study conducted a survey on the operating condition, situation and usage of the CRM system of performing theaters, based on a theoretical examination, and made a statistical analysis of the results. The survey targeted those in charge of the CRM system at 5 performance halls, having their own ticket reservation system and operating the CRM system in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do: Goyang Aram Nuri, Theater Yong, Sejong Center for the Performing Arts, Chungmu Art Hall, and LG Art Center. The study could not but restrict the survey to those who have a certain knowledge of the CRM system of the theaters. Accordingly, the researchers distributed questionnaires to 60 employees in charge of the CRM system of the above-mentioned 5 theaters, of which 54 employees answered. Such a research process led to the following research findings. First, the sample of respondents who answered the survey was 54, of which 26(48.1%) work for theaters with 1,000 to 2,000 seats and 27(50.0%) work for those hiring less than 50 employees. Second, there are a large number of unskilled manpower among those operating the CRM system of theaters, and the CRM system of the country's theaters was introduced not long ago, mostly started operating 4 to 5 years ago and is now trying to induce marketing. Third, the CRM is mainly used for managing the breakdown of ticket purchases and the present condition of membership, contributing to an increasing number of new members at theaters. Fourth, the employees of theaters did not recognize the CRM nor support its operations that much, but most of them had a positive recognition of the maintenance and management of CRM, and its results after use. Fifth, the larger the size of theaters is, the more positive perception of CRM recognition and operation support they have. Sixth, the longer the operating period of the CRM is, the more positive perception of CRM maintenance and management they have. Lastly, the CRM system showed the greatest effect on a retention of customer loyalty, an increase in earnings rate of performing theaters, an improvement in the image of theaters. The largest number of answers required the recognition of problems such as lack of experts in operating the CRM system and their improvement. The study could gain diverse responses by surveying those in charge of the CRM at theaters. However, it was unfortunately hard to verify the effect of the system in a short term. Furthermore, since the use of the CRM system at the country's theaters is mainly focused on large and medium-sized ones, there were also realistic limitations that the study could not secure enough respondents.
