A study on the earth pressure acting on the excavation walls in a rock stratum with the variation of joint characteristic and coefficient of earth pressure원문보기

The various problems caused by collapse and excessive deflection from different underground excavations in urban areas come to the fore as social issues as they adversely affect the surrounding environments. Accordingly, it is very socially and economically pressing to minimize the relevant drawbacks as well as to secure the safety of the excavation wall itself constructed for the development of underground space in the city. In this study, to secure the safe and economical design and construction of excavation walls in the rock stratum, especially as the basic research for the assessment of the apparent earth pressure acting on the of the excavation walls, the numerical parametric study has been conducted in various condition's including the types of rocks, coefficient of earth pressure, the joint spacing and the joint angle will be investigated; And the numerical results have been compared with the empirical at method suggested by Peck(1969) and the result will be analyzed and put together to propose the information and data necessary for the estimating earth pressure for the design of the excavation walls in the rock stratum in the future. The result in this study indicated that the earth pressure in the excavation wall can be different depending on the conditions including the types of rocks, joint characteristic(the joint spacing and angles), and variation of coefficient of earth pressure, and therefore that it may be unreasonable to indiscreetly apply Peck's empirical earth pressure in the rock stratum. In other words, the magnitude and distribution of the earth pressure on the rock stratum should be estimated as this research suggests in consideration of types of rocks, joint characteristic, and variation of coefficient of earth pressure. This result would hereafter be utilized as an important information and a useful data for the assessment of earth pressure for designing a retaining structure installed in jointed rockmass.
