Two important parameters used in modeling LFG(Landfill gas) generation based on a first-order equation are the methane generation potential(L0) and the methane generation rate constant(k). The methane generation potential represents the total volume of methane generated from landfilled wastes. The methane generation rate constant reflects the degradation rate of solid wastes and is affected by waste components, moisture, and other environmental conditions. The parameters are site specific and difficult to determine. The parameters can be obtained following different strategies, such as theoretical prediction, laboratory experiments. However, the theoretical methane generation potential must be adjusted by biodegradability of solid wastes, also based on various assumptions. In laboratory experiments, there are certain difficulties in reproducing the real conditions of landfill. Although the research of parameters has improved in recent years, it is recognized that current methods are not accurate. In this study, therefore, the objective was to develop determination method of model parameters and greenhouse gas generation models from solid waste landfill. First of all, this research was conducted to evaluate the suitability of sigmoidal and first-order kinetic equations for simulation methane production from organic wastes. The sigmoidal kinetic equations used were modified Gompertz and Logistic equations. Statistical criteria used to evaluate kinetic equation performance were analysis of goodness-of-fit (Residual sum of squares, Root mean squared error and Akaike's Information Criterion). Akaike's Information Criterion (AIC) was employed to compare goodness-of-fit of equations with same and different numbers of parameters. RSS and RMSE were decreased for first-order kinetic equation with lag-phase time, compared to the first-order kinetic equation without lag-phase time. However, first-order kinetic equations had relatively higher AIC than the sigmoidal kinetic equations. This study showed that the sigmoidal kinetic equations had better goodness-of-fit than the first-order kinetic equations. Secondly, in this study, anaerobic batch tests were performed on the municipal solid wastes in order to estimate methane production rate. To simulate methane production rate, the first derivatives of the sigmoidal kinetic equations were calculated. Also, diauxic growth was employed to simulate methane production rate from municipal solid wastes. The kinetic equations were fitted to simulate methane production rate by nonlinear regression with a Marquardt-Levenberg algorithm. Data fits obtained by using the equations were compared statistically by the use of the RMSE(Root mean squared error) and AIC(Akaike's information criterion). The kinetic equations derived from sigmoidal kinetic equations successfully described methane production rate from municipal solid wastes. RMSE and AIC were decreased for the equations with diauxic growth, compared to the equations without diauxic growth. These results showed that the kinetic equations derived from sigmoidal kinetic equations with diauxic growth could be a useful tool to simulate methane production rate from municipal solid wastes. Thirdly, anaerobic batch tests such as BMP (Biochemical methane potential) may not be suitable to estimate methane production from landfills. Because, the tests could be overestimated methane generation potential and difficulties in reproducing the real conditions of landfill. In this study, therefore, four lysimeters (Volume : 140L) were used to investigate the effect of different bioreactor landfill methods on the methane production rate. Lys-1 was operated without leachate recirculation while the leachate of 1,064 mL/week was recirculated in Lys-2. Also, leachate digested in the ASBR(Anaerobic sequencing batch reactor) was recirculated in Lys-3 (1,064 mL/week) and Lys-4 (2,128 mL/week). For activation methanogenic bacteria in the leachate to be produced from Lys-3 and Lys-4, two sets of ASBR (R3, R4) were operated at 35±1℃. Lys-3 and Lys-4 showed that this was an increase of about 3 times to the total amount of COD recovered as methane in Lys-1. Therefore it can be seen that by activation and recirculation methanogenic bacteria within the leachate through the use of the ASBR, more methane gas can be recovered than in the existing landfill method or a simple leachate recirculation. The methane production rate was observed intermediate lag period referred to as diauxic growth. Therefore, the kinetic equations derived from sigmoidal kinetic equations with diauxic growth were employed to simulate methane production rate from each lysimeter. The kinetic equations were relatively well described methane production rate from municipal solid wastes. The r-squares obtained for model fitting and regression turned out from 0.60 to 0.85. It seemed that the kinetic equations could be a useful tool for prediction greenhouse gas generation and calculation of model parameters (L0 and k) from solid waste landfill. Lastly, in this study, two equations that can be represented in the derivative of the Gompertz and Logistic equations were employed to evaluate model parameters, methane generation potential (L0) and methane generation rate constant (k). Parameters were determined through statistical comparison of predicted and actual landfill gas collection data. The r-square obtained for model fitting and regression was Gompetz of 0.92 and Logistic of 0.94, respectively. It was found that L0 and k values can be calculated by model fitting and regression using the equations if landfill gas collection data are available. Also, new models were developed for prediction greenhouse gas generation from solid waste landfill. These models had better prediction than the LandGEM model. Frequency histograms for Qcs (LFG collection system) : Q (prediction value) ratios were employed to estimate the accuracy of models. The new models had relatively higher the
